Beagles are the same as any other dog in relation to the Hunting Act. Hares are their quarry, and hunting hares is illegal.

Cheers.

But your allowed to use a pack of hounds to hunt a wounded hare. Does that mean you can use a runner on permission as long as puss is wounded?

Never heard of that. The only exemption I know of is to use a maximum of two dogs to flush game to a gun or bird of prey.

Cheers.

Absolutely lunacy, so why is it OK to catch a hare with a hawk or eagle but not a dog?

They just make shit up as they go along.

And in the draughting of the law, instead of saying foxes and foxhounds, it was extended as a catchall to include all dogs and all mammals, with the exception of rats and rabbits.

Purely class hatred, nothing to do with animal welfare.

Cheers.

I see Jim barrington (former lacs) is researching into the effects of the hunting act on the animals it was suppose to protect. It’s called the rural wrongs project.

Doesn't specify method or dog number so I suppose you could; just to catch a wounded hare

Here's the relevant section of the hunting act, including wounded animals;

Section 1 (5) states no more than two dogs to be used in stalking or flushing.

section 5 deals with the retrieving of wounded hares.

An Act to make provision about hunting wild mammals with dogs; to prohibit hare coursing; and for connected purposes. 9

Cheers.

That's what I thought; no more than 2 dogs but the way Ive read it is that retrieval of hares is separate from flushing and stalking. Would that put a 2 dog limit on it?

Yes, it's there in section 5 of Schedule one, exempt hunting, stalking and flushing out. No where in the act does it mention any more than two dogs.

Cheers.

That's the truth and it was confirmed to me recently after watching a YouTube channel of a lad from around here an ex miner who was bang into his lurchers and has killed his fair share of gear who has turned into an anti and it's obvious his rants are down to his extreme left wing views.
