I can’t agree with that a lot mate .

ive seen and owned dozens of saluki blooded dogs that have marmalised hares all over Annan and Dumfries . This talk of four and five mins , not up there mate.

as for using wee Bob , wee Bob was a first cross saluki greyhound to injun joe . why use him if 90 % of dogs cant catch up there ??

the only way most hares get away there is if they can go unsighted on a hill ,fields left / south of the a75 usuallly bank downwards, it’s literally like shooting fish in a barrel with a quick type . My Sal grey used to break them up in 30 - 40 secs if there were kicked outta that ground pal .

Not trying to be a prick but to compare the fens with Dumfriesshire is a bit rich pal ??

hope ya enjoyed ya walk

were you lamping or running in the summer??    NOW is the time to come and show your dog, we would accommodate you,  if you would want to put a small wager  working mans type, no problem, I clearly stated I have never run the slope,

Now is the time time, December or January,

Leave yourself off !

I live ten mins from Annan , I’ve ran dogs there all my life , don’t make out it’s a special place .

Question for the lads, how many runs can you expect in a day off dogs with the most stamina, be that heavy saluki saturated dogs and pures.

Always stopped when the dogs told me it’s had enough . ive had a dog die from exhaustion, it wasn’t nice

I know that mate but just wondering how much runs these bottomless dogs are good for?

You not had a courser before ??

all depends really , time of year , condition, ground , owner , diet , see how you get on

what I would say is that the pursuit of daytime hares in earnest , I’ve seen dogs ? f all kinds spin them around rapid in fields etc , is the standard for a saluki grey .

that level of pace / stick that comes with a bog standard fen dog is a nice to have with other breeds . it’s just part of the dog imho .

They just excel at day hares , that’s their job imho

No, never had a coursing bred dog.

I've seen lurchers that have had saluki in the mix but not specialist hare dogs.

Like I've said before, my 3/4 collie cross could regularly catch hares, the most he caught locally was 3 on a mooch out.

It's a given that they provably weren't the best of hares and at a guess I'd say it was around October time but catching 3 ain't easy.

Now I know these out and out coursing dogs will be different gravy but that's a question that always pops up.

I know the heavy saluki types have bags of stamina but does a 3-4 minute course take more out of these dogs than a 30 second to a minute course for a whizz banger.

It's impossible to say really I guess, too many variables.

I’ve always thought 10 minutes running time for a good staying dog in a day is plenty enough if they can hack it,  wether that be 5 x 2 minute runs, 3 x 3 minute runs or 2 x 5 minute runs ect, wether a dog could do 1 x 10 minute run is a different kettle of fish, but you have got to remember if a dog has a decent long run say 3 minutes they want to be kept on the lead and walked for 20 minutes before slipping again to get there body right

Interesting that mate as I’ve always lived by the adage of giving it when it’s there , obviously within reason , not tongue out and slip but letting the dog decide when it’s ready.

getting that wind broken type sketch
