i don’t think a steady type will have more difficulty keep up with a hare then a fast type mate just run different ?

You don't believe that do you mate?

Some dogs are just faster than others at the end of the day, if it wasn't the case wouldn't folk just run pures as they have more in the tank.

That's what I'm saying mate.

If a fast dog like Lucas was struggling to stay on the hare then surely a slower type would have been even further behind thus easier to shake off in cover.

no necessarily mate because the early lucas has over a good distance will get caught up once the dog gets into its stride

What mate?

Lucas got fully in to his stride but couldn't really do anything with that hare.

Are you saying he shot his load after a minute or two, if not then how could a steadier dog get any closer in 1 or 2 mins?

If we are talking 3 minutes plus I can understand that a dog with more in the tank would appear just as fast but Lucas looked in trouble from the start don't you think.

no mate a steady type may take 5 seconds longer to get there top end be no different and it won’t be using all its speed to try striking all the time it will sit in

Magoo, you is talking SHITE.  Any dog, on any ground, that takes more than 3 minutes to catch a hare is a fckin plodding 'neddy!'

that hare lucas run mate in vid a fast aggressive whippet wouldn’t even put one bend in mate it would be a 50 second run it’s lost it back on the lead

Why you keep mentioning whippets, Magoo?!  We all know that these 'coursing bred/saluki types need at least 2 1/2- 3, 4 + minutes to catch a hare, pretty pathetic really  ?

I know what you're saying about styles and that mate but some dogs are just faster than others, be that at accelerating or on top end.

Now I don't know how fast Lucas was as I never saw him in flesh but he was rated by the lads in the scene so he must have had something about him.

You're right though, a real bottomless dog would have likely been closer to the hare at the 3 minute mark when he lost it in cover.

The hare outrun the dog fair and square there.

I started with lurchers on day time hare, and it's still my favourite field sport, but by no means my only one.

These days, if I ONLY done day time hares, I'd want an up and at 'em, wiz banger type, maybe a little bit of Saluki, but mainly non-ped Whippet and greyhound, possibly some other type in the breeding.

I want to be on and off the field sharpish and move on, I don't want a dog being towed around the field for 4/5/6 minutes.

Now, mC, please don't give me a lecture on the superiority of heavily influenced Saluki types, I've been there ? ?, and I'm certainly not knocking the type.

Its just the personal opinion of an old man.

Cheers.
