Cheese rolling !!!  Coopers hill overlooks the village I live in and used to be a part of the estate I keeper , I think English nature or woodland trust own it now . I competed in it myself when I was

The lad I know that’s won it, walks round with a 25litre water container tied to his belt beforehand to aid his launch a gram of base and about 10 cans, him and his mate have both won it and been runn

The rules are simple, first to the bottom wins the  cheese . I promise you , where I live there will be no Tokenism or pandering. If they rock up and win , fair play to em , they would deserve to go h

You might visit Brockworth and think it’s a sleepy backwater and the locals talk with a slow West Country accent and nothing much happens. But when it comes to cheese rolling, we don’t take any shit . The cheese will continue to roll and there is nothing the police or government can do to stop it .

You wait, one day an Asian will turn up, not win and you'll have hell to pay!

We had a Gurkha turn up one year and win the uphill race , I’ve never seen anyone move uphill as fast as that guy . But he didn’t win a downhill cheese . I haven’t seen any other ethnicities do any good in the race , a Japanese guy broke his leg last year , I remember seeing him carried aloft through the crowd wearing his rising sun headband, screaming in agony ??

Maybe it’s just a white culture thing , maybe we are the only race stupid enough to hurtle down that near vertical hill , for a cheese .

Common ridings are a good day out and are unique to the Scottish Borders

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Common_Riding

from the traditional to the modern , some are taken seriously from the choosing of the cornet, rideouts , the patriotism of the Langholm one where its taken more seriously than Xmas and people return from all over the world to go, to the one at cop Shaw which is a paradoybifvthe Langholm one with the riding done in push bikes led by the 50p tub. A play on the word cornet.

interestingly the Kirk yetham riding has its roots in the traveller community with the head man being named the “kushti Gadgi”

a very traditional British day out and I love that these still go on.

Probably end up under the tree with mrs west ?

Don’t wish to be a pedant, but Mrs West or Rose to her friends is now residing at Broadmoor , busying herself with her knitting and basket weaving. Also Fred’s victims were buried under the patio or in the walls . ??

Every year I plan to run bulls again at pamplona but work, wife and kids always come first. Bit like the fishing comp

That’d be a hell of a thing. There used to be a traditional bull run type event at Stamford.
