Forgive my ignorance but why would you want to " remember " people that were trying to kill your dad/grandad/countrymen ?

Is it one of them clap both teams off at the end of a game kind of things ?

Because they were still young lads that had families and sacrificed their lives for their country, not all were Nazi or followed their ideology.

The only person that has mentioned hating anyone is you, in case you hadn’t noticed ;)

You seem very confused, go away and have a think about where you do stand on things then make comment, probably be better.

I think morton is correct wilf. I, and I'm sure I'm not on my own, am getting sick to the back teeth with your draconianly boring as f**k racism and extremist views about anyone that isn't white/english.

Have you ever been to belgium to see the trenches and war memorials etc?

Nope, but I did live with someone who was part of the BEF, got left behind to fight the rearguard action so that the army could get off the beach at Dunkirk, was cut off, subsequently captured, spent 5 years in Stalag VIII b and then did the Lamsdorf death march......does that count if we are playing WW2 top trumps ?

Funny he never mentioned the “massive contribution” of ethnic minorities......or how much it equally effected the Germans for that matter.......but then I suppose you wouldn’t when they used to lock you in a metal box buried in the ground for 14 days at a time for nicking rotten spud peelings out the bin.

Now, please explain what extremist about a white British bloke NOT wanting to be constantly told how much we owe every African for things they never did for us?

If you don’t like it then do what most people in Britain do and look away ;)

Never really thought much about this, but researching the areas where my family were & where I grew up, theres Anzac war graves & a Polish war memorial, aswell as living near a pretty big Indian populated area.

Hate to tell you this but it's not just the winners that have a story.

Like I said, right or wrong all should be remembered. It's a stark reminder of how shit war is.

I was always told my grandad was a desert rat (he died when i was a baby), ive been doing my family tree & his self and his ancestors are the main ones I dont have much info on.

Was the desert rats just the The 7th Armoured Division? As I found someone with my grandads name enlisted in the Queen's Royal, I cant say it is my grandad though as my dad died a few weeks ago, & no one else around in that side of the fam.

I remember seeing medals & my dear aul Nan telling me they were my grandads. Would be nice to find a bit more info.

Have you got or can you get his regimental number and get info that way?

Iv  always considered myself a fairly open minded fella ,not overly political ,no ideology ,and willing to listen to others opinions ,but I have got to admit the racism in this country the last few years has got to me ,it's sinister ,organised and relentless ,this white is bad and  every other ethnicity is good message has infiltrated every aspect of our culture ,education ,the arts ,the media is seemingly full of white people telling white people how shameful their history is .To be working class ,white ,heterosexual in my own country nowadays sometimes makes me feel like one of the oppressed minorities I am supposed to feel so guilty about .

Listen to their stories yes but that doesnt mean you should go all emotional for them thats for their own people to do which im sure they do.....personally id find it a tad patronising to commemorate people we all wanted dead but each to their own.

Who's gone all emotional for them?

I think to say we all wanted them dead is a bit silly fella.

If you don't want to remember those people then each to their own.
