You will handover certain information as part of the deal. I get that and I accept that it's part of the experience. However... Social media has normalised transparency. Facebook have either negligently allowed their data to be breached or Cambridge Analytica has taken it under false pretences. CA's particular niggle is that they've accessed not only the participator (in the guise of whoever has loaded this app) but all of their friends, and then their friends, such is the elaborate nature of this application. As is mentioned in the video above they take this extremely personal information and use it to create content that will go as far as it needs to to make you receptive to their message. The content's accuracy is irrelevant as it's about engaging and controlling behaviour and you only have to look at GT to see how the content is shared and posted. They've essentially weaponised social media. Kind of exciting though, seeing not just politics but democracy evolving!... albeit into autocracy. Lol I honestly believe that 'we' will adapt and push back, righting this wrong. Well either that or we'll turn into mindless drones..... those who aren't already. And yes i do see absolute tripe that is shared around by idiots, if they are so idiotic then more fool them i guess.

I'm sure there are people reading this thinking we're a paranoid bunch of f*cks but I'm actually in agreement with you. Ethical stance on selling people's privacy, and those that don't give a flying f*ck, aside it's simply a new tool and now we're aware of its existence we can enact countermeasures. Democracy is definitely evolving.

Democracy is definitely evolving. Its f***ing scary to think what society will be like with advances in phsycology and media tech! I was told at work about some study done about free will. Something to do with a high percentage of decisions we make that we believe are free are actually predetermined by our individual physcology/biology. A predisposition to a certain action. The implications of that alone are terrifying for a libertarian!

The implications of that alone are terrifying for a libertarian! Agreed! Again a couple of decades ago you'd have to pry my personal information from my cold dead hands. Today the only thing stopping it being a huge deal is the sheer volume of it and the lack of people to sift through it to find anything meaningful. Like Kerny eloquently put it earlier on "the vast majority of information that is shared on Facebook is what Kathleen had for tea or how hungover Roy is." We touched on it in the Let's Go Full Tinfoil thread about how perception is malleable and open to influence. There are studies on it dating back a century and this simply the latest stage. You're correct on the implications and this is why us Libertarians should be expanding. Would it be counter-intuitive to use their system? jiggy 3,207
I bet some of the women aren't worried about their spouses internet search history and would wish that their husband watched porn on the quiet instead of having to be annoyed with him tipping her on the shoulder every 5 minutes with HONEY LOOK AT THIS ARTICLE ON WHATS HAPPENING IN BREXIT or DID YOU SEE THESE EMAILS SENT DURING THE TRUMP CAMPAIGN or DONT TURN ON THE SMART TV BECAUSE THE GOVERNMENT HAS SPY WARE BUILT IN THAT LISTENS TO EVERYTHING WE SAY.??? As a libertarian, I look at it purely from a stance of individual freedoms, vs larger government and increased restriction. Computers log everything. The breakdown is the human reviewing the information. Government is costly and inefficient and giving them more power is counter to a free society. Despite all the money from taxes. All the technology. All the surveillance. All the manpower. Are we more secure? I don't think that can be demonstrated. 9 minutes ago, jiggy said: I can't believe there isn't a tinfoil hat emoji invented by now ? 7 minutes ago, kanny said: Count dankular a YouTube comedian has been found guilty of hate speach today in a Scottish court Edited March 20, 2018 by ChrisJones
