THE STIFFMEISTER 17,308
I’m following the lettered van thing at all, so a lad with a joinery business couldn’t buy a house there? You learn something everyday

You learn something everyday He could but he'd have to cover the logo or not park where it's visible. One of the other popular ordinances is not being able to have a washing line. There are places over here that have Home Owners Associations. They're basically an elected committee that walks around the neighbourhood to see if you're in breach of any of the community rules. They're out in place to stop people trashing the place but as you'd expect with committees they often invoke Godwin's law. You have to abide by their rules or you could face eviction and you sign the agreement before you can rent/buy the house. The last house I rented I was told by the HOA that I'd have to trim the tree that was overhanging on the footpath. If I didn't do it they would and bill me for the work. I took the chainsaw out and cut it down. Nailed the note to it and dragged the tree around to the community centre in my old Dodge and dropped it in the HOA parking spot. They weren't very happy but I'd already signed the mortgage on this place at that point. Where I live now there is no HOA. I can put a f*ck*ng machine gun nest in the yard if want to. F*ck*ng commies. 2

BGD 6,437
Pal of mine who moved to the states ended up in full scale war with his HOA, I couldn't believe the power they have over what you can with your own property! Literally going round with a ruler making sure no ones grass was above the allowed length They're probably a good idea in theory keeping the area nice and protecting property values but they're always going to attract the little Hitlers with nothing better to do. forest of dean redneck 12,023
We live in housing association place and there was 4 trees in our front garden when I moved in, first one to go was a Christmas tree planted to close to the house and the branches were starting to touch the gutter, 2 more got ripped out to make more room for second car on drive, last one I phoned up housing about as it was nearly as tall as the house and branches were nearly touching the house, they told me I was responsible for keeping it maintained ,so I told them it was being cut down then,so I grabbed the neighbours father and he chopped it down for free firewood.? The one 8,587
Wait a few years and t hey calm down by then I'd paid off my mortgage and the house was mine so I wasn't going to listen to them I don't think a hoa would take you to court for a lettered van or caravan anyway think of the cost . It was great being the youngest family in the street the oldies are no bother and it was quiet and my son and I clear the snow for some of them so I don't think they would grass me up

You'd be surprised especially when you get presented with the document you signed to say you wouldn't do what they're taking you to court for. I'd imagine it wouldn't be too much of an issue in Blighty but here they'll sue you just enough to recover the costs of the legal action and some of these posh gated communities have some serious financial backers. The one 8,587
Aye maybe. But what's really weird is there's no shops in the scheme and the council won't give planning permission to change a house to a shop but 5 minutes away in that scheme the to shops where built as houses and the upstairs are now flats it's the same council same planning officer
