Re Writing History

Recommended Posts

I hate revisionism and this is a terrible example of the practise ! This isn't a little tweek of the facts, it's a dirty great coat of whitewash, with a huge blind eye stuck in it !

Rename this school, because it was built by a slave trader......take down that statue, he was an imperialist......remove that dog's name from a photo (!)......

History, yes, is written by winners, but should always have a large degree of factual content, and record events impartially, otherwise it's just an opinion !

Edward Colston WAS a slave trader (among others things), but he used his vast wealth to build schools and libraries for the poor of his home town. Nelson WAS an imperialist, but he is one of this countries greatest heroes, and with good reason....as was Guy Gibson - despite the fact that his dog WAS called Nigger !

Why is the truth so uncomfortable to people who weren't even born when the events happened ? The past can't be changed, but we CAN learn from it, or we are destined to repeat it's mistakes.

That's a nice way of putting it

Just to be clear children. The First Nations Peoples were not happy in their primitive way of life so we had to burn their villages and murder them for convenience and amusement. We also shot their primary food source into extinction for sport. We made lots of treaties with them but we always broke them because they were not God fearing white people like us. Some of the First Nations Peoples were very ungrateful because when they made way for us, we gave them, (out of the goodness of our hearts) lovely reservations but they didn't like them simply because they were thousands of miles away from their old homes and the land was unsuitable for farming. Eventually we persuaded the First Nations Peoples to accept our magnificent generosity and they have been happy ever since. In the interests of historical accuracy we have made lots of films depicting the First Nations Peoples being naughty and attacking innocent settlers, but the cowboys, helped by our righteous and God fearing army always wins in the end. Never forget children, that the American army continues to euthanise naughty ethnic people all over the world. We are the world's policeman, our wars are always righteous and we have God on our side. Now bow your heads whilst we sing the national anthem.

Just to be clear, I think the correct term is "indigenous people" these days.......

What's with this 'we' and 'us'? IMO that's half the problem, pretending that what white folk did a few hundred years ago is somehow our responsibility today.

'We' feel a bit guilty about it and try to scrub it out and 'they' feel like victims of it and try to make us guilty. It's all bollocks!

Not half of the problem mate, its ALL of the problem, inherited guilt is a ridiculous concept, how and where does it end?I aint guilty for my grandfathers or great-grandfathers misdemeanours just as vlad the impalers modern day family tree are free of guilt from his wrongdoings. It boils my piss when I hear black americans or brits bleating about reparation for slavery, why don't they f**k off to Zanzibar or the middle east and ask for payment for the historical crimes.

I don't think many people do tbh. I'm really bad at history, it's sounds sad, but mostly I can't be arsed with it & I think that go's for most people I know.

As usual it will be a minority getting all worked up about another minority, especially on all this social media shite!
