Lots of helpful suggestions here. Jonjon makes a particularly good point when he talks about Weihrauch, Air Arms and established makes being serviceable/repairable, with parts available easily. If you

You dont need to spend loads mate just have a look for a secondhand rifle of your fancy in the freeads buy it and practice with it until your good then away you go. You dont need to spend silly money

near York. Wanting to spend money wisely!

OK 177 with heavy pellets? What type of pellets?

Ok what make of scope?

Want to get a few opinions before I try a gun shop and thought my money might go further in a private sale?

Thanks for your opinions so far.

The pellets will be decided by the rifle mate - they're all different.

My main hunting rifle likes JSB Heavies but, one that you buy might not.

..... Testing is all part of the fun ;)

Just because I prefer heavies, doesn't mean you will - you may like lighter ones with a flatter trajectory.

...... This is a funny ol' game.

Once you've got your rifle, give me a shout - I'll send you some samples of quality, different weight pellets to try

Hawke scopes are a good place to start for airgun use

Moley has or had a phox and did very well with it but just be careful buying second hand from private sellers you don't know.

For what your going to be doing and your budget I would be tempted with Mark's suggestion of a brand new smk p900 pcp as they really do get VERY good reviews from all that have them.

They are light, have charge indicator and with your change from £300 you will almost get a scope and a pump if you spend carefully.

Hows that for a bundle? Brand new, with warranty, delivered!

Wish they did the .177 last year, would have had that instead of the .22 I bought. It is a good gun, basically a BSA Ultra, but that is a complete outfit!

ok, some of you will laugh, £300 tops ,preferably not that! given stirrup pump so might be able to do without bottle.

Seen some gamo fox and cayote and told they almost a bsa

Anyway gun or new childseat for car?

Gun. :D

They are BSA's mate. Quite literally.

You could get a new single shot ultra for 400... just food for thought.

Evening, been having a think and a talk to a few people including gun shops.

If i push my budget a Walther rm8 varmint ? for just over £440 with scope and silencer new, or a hw 110?

Yes pushing the budget but save up and buy better with warranty?

Your thoughts appreciated.
