Get yourself to a dogs trust and pick up a staffy.

+1 for that !

Our last one, that I mentioned earlier, came from rescue.....she turned out to be the daughter of Bold Bull Blackjack (I'm told he was something of a Staffy legend ?).

You get still get a traditional Staff - muscular, strong, brave and fiercely loyal ! Cracking dogs - just a shame that so many are owned by f***wits, these days......

Had one years ago it was mental..... It was like having Mr blobby in the house clumsiest thing I've ever seen

That's ideal for most isn't it?   last thing you want is some courier dropping a package down the side of the house or a kid who's climbed your fence after a football getting badly injured,or worse.

Why not just get a Lurcher? Best of both worlds.

Thats true I had a hand full of builders that wouldn't go near the gate the other day until the wife said it was ok. He has a dam deep menacing bark and the looks to match. Not an attribute I wanted but the house and family are safe with him in it

That's one of the main reasons why this twat of mine is still here.

if it was from a rescue centre how di they know if came from bold bull blackjack?

We got her through the SBT Rescue organisation, not a rescue centre. She was rehomed to us direct from a chap in Chelmsley Wood, who gave us her pedigree papers.

She was Ebony Midnight Sprit (no spelling mistake !)

Not a breed I would otherwise have had, but it would have been churlish and disrespectful to have refused it.

It turned out a very nice dog and I brought it home to the UK.

It gets a mention in one of Darcy's books, flushing roe to Bruce and Delta.

Even caught the odd rabbit.

Have you ever had a German Pointer mate ?

I found them very similar dogs in almost every regard.

One person animals.

No, but I've seen some nice ones, both smooth and wire haired.

I know the Australians use them in pig dog crosses, but I've never understood how a breed that has centuries of training not to run in or chase could have any positive effect in lurcher breeding, but I know some people swear by them, just my own opinion.

Of the HPR's, I like GWP, Wiemaraner, Vistula, but I've never been temped to go down the gundog route, a decent lurcher does everything I need ?

Cheers.

I had GSP and had her killing foxes but to be fair it was the worst thing I ever did, it triggered a side of her nature that ultimately meant I had to get rid of her.

She developed that “one man, one dog” thing that is inherent in Doberman’s and she was protective of me even to my family, that didn’t go well with having a little lad so she had to go……not point in taking a chance I didn’t think.

It was a trait I witnessed every day in my Dobermans many years ago and it can’t be trusted around others I don’t think.
