terryd 8,950
yes hoax. The daughter had an email to stay away sent from the uni. At least nowadays it is easier to get the word out quick. The news makes sad watching at the moment. They were listing the dead on the news and me and mrs both looked at each with the red old eyes. Terrible

BGD 6,437
If anyone is single with no children, has six months to spare, and wants to fight ISIS on their own turf, there's always the YPG if they'll take you.I doubt the THL regulars would be that popular with the Marxist YPG There's been a few British leftists that have gone over to Rojava to fight with the YPG though, they formed the Bob Crow Brigade Very true, although they are being armed by Trump, and US special forces are providing training and fighting alongside them. There's also a fair few British ex squaddies in the International Brigade doing their bit to defeat ISIS. Aye in reality I'm sure they'd accept anyone capable and willing to fight alongside them against ISIS. Have to take your hat off to the Kurds and the International Brigades, takes real balls bringing the fight to ISIS.
Nik_B 3,791
OT but Most large scale wars were fought largely by conscripts
C556 351
I think the main thing they're trying to filter out are fruitloops and publicity seekers, as they've had problems with them in the past. There's a lot of western volunteers serving as medics treating injured soldiers and civilians.
Nik_B 3,791
I would hope someone asks them where they think ISIS get their weapons since their occupied territory is entirely landlocked.....they can't still be burning through 'captured' weapons from years ago lol

We know there was an oil for weapons program between Turkey (NATO member), and we know that US/Saudi backed groups were selling their weapons to them as well. Nik_B 3,791
Anyway....I digress. So it turns out these people were all known to the security services for years and they've been allowed to wander round enjoying their freedom in the UK and we thought we could keep tabs on them. Now a load of young girls are dead because we couldn't. There are people in this country (probably several tens of thousands) who have fought in external wars from before the Russian invasion of Afghanistan, including the Algerian civil war, Kosovo and then more recent ones. Granted the older ones might not be able to fight but these people will be heros to the younger ones. All of them are free and all contribute to more radicalization.
