TAXI DRIVER 551
Have the press lost the plot, describing the recent scuffles as mass brawls?I`ve watched the Man City v Chelsea incident and not a single punch was thrown. This over the top reporting can`t be good for the game. What`s your thoughts. cragman 2,843
I always laugh when they start pushing each other then when a team mate comes and holds them back and they know they're safe, they go ape shit to get the other man! Pussys
gnasher16 31,601
Footballers havent changed neither has society we still want to see the same passion and commitment and players are still willing to give it.......its the media that has changed look at the way the Norman Hunter/Franny Lee fracas was reported back in the day,its still an iconic football moment even to this day !...........yet if that actually happened in this day the media would report it as a lifetime banning offence possible jail sentance and the general public would be brainwashed into thinking a terrible terrible act had just been committed.......the football press in this country and the way our media treat our sportsmen is an absolute disgrace. WILF 50,647
Totally agree with that mate and the worst bit is that we are seeing it creep into the game with rule changes and the way the game is refereed........it's why the sterlings of this world get away with playing at the top level IMHO

gnasher16 31,601
You will understand it better than i do Wilf as you,ve played the game but the type of " high pressing " we hear about today seems to of taken a lot of the little 50/50 battles all over the pitch you used to see out of the game now....not just the centre forward/centre half tussles that were obvious but all the little midfield battles or right back/left wing that everybody knew was going on if you were engrossed in the game even as a fan.....i just dont think it suits a lot of our clubs particularly those that have a lot of English players.....my mate whos an Arsenal fan was explaining to me how whenever they play Walcott and Chamberlain they are instinctively looking to get down the wings and put the ball into an area where a centre forward would be......yet when they play without Giroud they are crossing the ball into an empty space as those boys have been raised to play the old fashioned English way......anyway ive gone off subject a bit here but i think its why we tend to see these silly brawls involving 20 players now rather than one on ones like back then.
