terryd 8,925
On foot today so set off to a little wood a couple of miles away. One of the few open spots I have because cover is still bad around here at the moment. Soon as we got over the gate I spotted a rabbit the other side of the field hop into the hedge. I new there was holes in that spot as I had one there last year. But I headed for the wood as the hedge is not the easiest and decided to save it for later if we didn't find any thing. Into the wood and the first thing on the agenda was a squirrel so a mad kamikaze dash over the bits of wire and god knows what after that. Once he got that out his system he started to work the wood. Show some interest under an old stump but checked out the cover around it first before coming back to mark it. I tried my young jill first as this is her second season. She was gone for some time and i new it a deceptively big spot anyway. But she showed back again. I should have given her another go but popped the old girl in. Sure enough with in a minute or two out popped a rabbit out of unnetted hole and away into the bramble. Really going to miss her when shes gone. She must be past 6 years now and a lovely ferret and finds no messing. The young one just needs more experience as she is keen as mustard too This stump was just made for the dog to sit on lol so happy with the dog and the old jill we covered the rest of the wood but nothing else doing. Out cross the field then towards the hedge and I was interested to see what the dog thought of it. Sure enough as we drew level with the holes he slid in and gave a mark. bit spikey but beggars can't be choosers so in we went. got some purse nets down best I could then put a stop net either side on the track not much room to move and it was going to be fun getting from a to b tempted to pop the old ferret in but decided to use the young one as she wont learn in the box so off she went sure enough rumble rumble and the rabbit bolted the opposite end to the dog. I could see the net was snagged and the rabbit getting out. But the dog made his way through this in a fraction if second some how lol and secured it all most straight away another rabbit flew out and the dog missed it by in inch and shot on to the track after it. Not sure who was more surprised the rabbit or the dog when it got balled up in well placed stop net so happy all round and trekked home for a nice cuppa nothing else I would rather be doing for sure 18 Quote Link to post
