DogFox123 1,379
Trouble is I've only got my GCSEs and to become a Land Surveyor I'm sure there's no other route apart from gaining a degree.

mushroom 14,144
I create business opportunities by acting as the first point of contact before there is any business. So my role is to basically sell without selling. I also help train people in this. I've been successful in this and I don't want to manage teams. I want to eventually full-time coach businesses in their future. Now I have the opportunity

cragman 2,843
Give it a go fella. I did my city and guilds into my late 40s and where I work they're always encouraging you to have a go at something. Mind you, the maths part of it was a b*****d, I struggled but got help with it. Did my mini digger training a few years ago along with chainsaw. Not life changing but enough for someone my age. Did night college as well, getting A level in a few subjects. It's never too late ?You're a surveyor then? I've assisted setting out engineers on the railway so I know the basics. I can use a tape haha and know how to read a drawing, I also know how to use a laser leveller with a staff etc..... I don't know if there is a route to go down without earning a degree though that's the trouble. No mate, not a surveyor but I work for a utility company so do use the tools you mention now and again. I was just saying that it's worth giving anything a go if it will bring you job satisfaction and a decent living ?It's knowing how to start and getting a foot in the door that's the hard part. Make some enquiries, ask people in the trade, look out for courses in your area that could contribute to you getting further up the ladder in your chosen trade. Open University? Local college? Ask to accompany surveyors when they're out on a job. Look into it on the internet, find out what you might need and what will help get you started. Use your f***ing initiative!

My clients (say Dell for example) want to sell servers to BP. so I research BP find out who is the right person at the right level and then I will open lines of communication (cold calling/emails/network) Set up meetings, understand what's the situation and if there is business, Basically do the sales/account manager job until contract then when they are clients someone else deals with them. In my new role I will be more like an office director, responsible for the growth of the company and when I have passed my scrummaster certification I will be also creating a whole new field of play for the company to work in.
