Blackbriar 8,569
Later today, parliament will discuss the renewal of the Trident nuclear programme. The debate could open up MORE party divisions. There could be real problems for Corbyn, a rabid opponent of nuclear weapons, as the programme was first proposed by the last Labour government, and his PLP support it... SNP members will vote against renewal, thus threatening thousands of Scottish jobs.... Should be a lively debate.....
Born Hunter 17,959
Didn't Corbyn begrudgingly declare support for a replacement fleet to appease the unions but then add his "armed with conventional warheads" bollocks to satisfy his nuclear proliferation mates? WILF 50,879
Complete waste of money in a time when the money they do rob everybody of never seems to go far enough to address things that ARE actually happening and going to happen. Let's face it, if some f****r pushes the button the planet won't be worth living on anyway so what was the point in having these things.

He has been forced into allowing a free vote, to play down divisions.Labour's PLP is often accused of not getting behind the leader, but here is a case of the leader not getting behind the party............ I don't buy the nothing left scenario, nature's one tough cookie I'd bet 10-20 years after nuclear Armageddon earth would be healthier than it has for a few hundred years

Look at areas that have suffered nuclear attack or catastrophe already. It'd have to be one hell of a war to be our end. Must admit, I'm torn as to whether I'd rather the money was spent on conventional hardware like a much larger frigate/patrol fleet and more aircraft with possibly a cruise missile and jet based nuclear capability if one at all. I don't believe in letting anybody else provide our sides nuclear deterrent, the Vanguard/Trident fleet does the job best and frankly I do genuinely believe there is a threat or the potential for one. WILF 50,879
As has been shown in Iraq, Libya and Syria they can destroy countries and massacre hundreds of thousands with a few rag head, some oil executives and the click of a mouse.......they don't need to spend trillions on a warhead we will never use . That's the point of a deterrent though, you don't need to use it,its always working.
keepitcovert 842
Not such a pointless weapon as described on here, we need it as a last defence to a hostile country. True the world would be a poisened rubbish tip. I believe germ warfare is more likely to be used in any future conflict as it would leave the infrastructure of that country habitable in the future. But while we are a nuclear power it will make the enemy think twice.

walshie 2,804
No thanks to the jocks. Every Scottish MP bar one (Conservative) voted against it. I'm really amazed any adults can be quite as naive. Considering the shit we have spent billions on lately, I think making sure the world knows our country isn't weak is worth every single penny.
