blackmaggie 3,377
Seen the title of the thread i thought just sounds like my Mrs maybe take him to a clay pigeon shoot but stand well away giving lots of praise while there shooting and slowly shorter the distance 2 Quote Link to post
ginger beard 4,653
That's why the dog is scared of bangs then I'd say no she never batted an eyelid then,it started when she saw the firework. Quote Link to post
leegreen 2,250
How old? The only way to break older dogs to load bangs/fireworks etc is to introduce them to them slowly, usually from a distance. Much easier to do as a pup. It can/is also be inherent. 1 Quote Link to post
krawnden 1,036
You can buy a recording of fireworks online (don't have a link I'm afraid but have a search under 'dog training aids' or somesuch and it shouldn't be too hard to find). Start playing it very quietly so dog not fussed at all. Gradually increase the volume over time until it's eventually at full blast. Obviously only turn volume up a tad once dog's completely chilled at previous level. Depending on how badly affected yours is it might take days, it might take months - you just have to go at whatever pace the dog dictates. 3 Quote Link to post

terryd 8,954
Mine hears a bang he thinks I have shot a pigeon but after a few trips out he soon realised that was very unlikely 2 Quote Link to post
mushroom 14,144
When feeding the dog in a closed environment let off a blank pistol. Act as though nothing has happened (so keep looking out of the window or something) and repeat as until the dog ignores it..... But!!! If you let off the blank and the dog looks at you funny, kick it's cnut in 1 Quote Link to post
tsteve9999 456
Mine hears a bang he thinks I have shot a pigeon but after a few trips out he soon realised that was very unlikely Mine are the same, my old dog will cross 2 fields if he hears a gun go off on the off chance theres something about. I'm so glad I took mine out as pups and shot over them, they take no notice of fireworks or any loud noise. Quote Link to post
