God Bless The Irish Fans

every major tournament that england are knocked out of one player is made scapegoat and gets slaughtered by the nation stuart pierce , david beckham, wayne rooney how can your players who should be heros feel like they are part of a team when one slip up and they get singled out as judas. Nobody said the irish enjoy losing games but if they go into battle and lose they die together as a team and why should fans drop their heads when they lose they payed good money to go there and enjoy themselves its not bootcamp for fcuksake get your chins up and move on.

Its only our media that hang our players out to dry.....fans who genuinely support the national team know the score and dont jump on that boat......again,most countries get behind their players not just Ireland.............anyway great result for the Irish last night totally deserved the win from the little bits i saw.

,the whole world is singing the praise of the fans, and you got nothing good to say..we should have been flinging bottles right? and 10 of our lads kicking the fuk out of one downed bloke....instead th

The footage on the news most days shows who the real clowns are .

Gnasher. I dont know enough bout footy to comment on footy side of things but ive been to loads of Rugby matches at all levels & apart from the actual Rugby played the atsmophere before during &am

Tongue in cheek gnash lol

I know what your saying about winning, but us irish know theres more to life than football, were not going to throw are toys out of the pram cause we lost, were not sore losers mate.

There enjoying themselves win lose or draw, that doesnt mean were not passionate, were mens men, we just take our oil an move on to the next, :)

If you say so .....not sure i really get it to be honest.......or infact want to......how anyone can enjoy losing is beyond my logic.

Not big into soccer but whem ,Mick McCarty was Irish manager and i think it was the world cup and dont ask me where it was as i dont know or give a shit but didnt Roy Keane pull a stropy and leave the tournement just because things were not quite the way he wanted them leting down his country, his team mates and most of all the fans that had travelled and spent there hard earned cash to be there.Roy was a good player who gave his all for both club and country but on that particular occasion i thing he was very un professional, the rest of the squad had to put up with the same conditions, what made him any different, and even though they did do well in that tournement they could have done better if he had not sulked and walked away.

I thought he was sent home for being TOO professional ?......he was the captain and wasnt happy with the preparations far as i recall......again,a player like Keane has a winning mentality he,s not interested in going to the biggest football tournaments in his sport to show what a great time he can have i totally get that......didnt he tell Ferguson he was going over there to win it so why stay on an island that doesnt even have a football pitch.......again,its competitive sport not a popularity contest i make him right.

What is it that you dont get, that we can take our oil if were beat, an still be happy, cmon mate, what do you want the fans to do, sit about with big faces on them if were beat, or start rioting.

As you can see from the result last night, we were cheerful for a reason, cmon the irish.

See thats were I seen the bit of jealously, you think the fans are out there for a popularity contest, ffs gnash mate, we great fans that enjoy themselves either way, can you not accept that.

What i dont get is how sports fans can celebrate losing in the exact same manner they celebrate a great victory like last night !.....dont ask me to understand it because i never will,or want to.

So this jealousy thing obviously wasnt tongue in cheek because you,ve said it again so i ask you again.....what is it im supposed to be jealous of ?.....have Ireland won the tournament while i wasnt looking or something ?

The best at what ? drinking beer and singing ?.....no problem if that's what constitutes " good fans "....fill ya boots and all that.

Ive been a West Ham fan my entire life i know what gallows humour is all about......but celebrating defeat i find bizarre sorry.

Im not trying to piss on anyones shoes i simply wanted to know how Irish folk felt towards probably their greatest player of all time and it seems many dont hold him in particularly high esteem because he wanted to win too much.......which kind of answers my question Francie but cheers anyway.

I had a lump in my throat when the lad ran over to his brother in the crowd, that's what sport is all about......it takes you above and beyond the mundane.

Fantastic highs and terrible lows......top class !

It's funny how you notice thing and I have said this before, they have really talented, skilful players here at every level.....and those GAA lads are big, fit units mate......but sports all a bit too "polite" here if you get my meaning.

There's no "nasty".......and IMHO they are weaker for it.......I would say the vast majority of football teams here would be a match for English teams skill and fitness wise but they would absolutely get tackled off the park by almost any English team, they just couldn't deal with it.

I'm sure I will get a telling for saying that but it's the reality as I see it.

Funny there should be such a difference for people who are basically the same.

Strange.....that Paul Mcgrath was no slouch was he.....and Keane could certainly put his foot in......im not sure he was the same plot of micks but Liam Brady was one of my all time favorite players i dont think ive ever seen a more naturally skilful player so what your saying makes sense.

I wonder if that's why Keano seems to be a bit resented ?......just at ordinary level here a player like him would get sent off every game and would be regarded as a bit weird......in England we live players like that?......go figure a ?

Keano was and still is an irish hero on the pitch but off the pitch he didnt back up what he said. He slated players for lacking loyalty and writing books and disclosing personal stuff that should be kept private then wrote several himself. He slated other irish players for lacking commitment but made excuses to miss friendly matches himself which is lack of preparation. He slated the media saying he wouldnt be caught dead doing tv work like a muppet then he joined ITV. He accused his team mates in every side he played in of lacking commitment but walked out on every one he played with at the first sign of trouble And lost dressingrooms. He tried to tell ferguson of all people how to manage a team. He is not irelands toughest ever player johnny giles is. For the first half of his career he was adored by all but after a while keane just got on most peoples nerves other than that he was my childhood hero you just have to take the good with the bad.
