gnasher16 31,387
Personally i forgot about all the vaccine caper long ago i couldnt give a shit about it either way but a couple of things reading you chaps posts about it that might be worth keeping in mind....i remember reading that Hagler and Hearns remained good friends throughout their lives so not like Hearns was just some random geezer taking a guess....but also Hearns has been punchy for years now im not sure how reliable his evidence would be.

Little pit a pat blows intended to score points and not hurt. People will argue about it till the year dot. Technically he won, agreed. But I still think Leonard was robbed. Whatever your opinion, it was a helluva fight by two brilliant boxers. Absolutely, and your'e certainly not the only one who feels Hagler deserved the nod plenty of people have said the same over the years.....i just think Hagler started too slow and showed Leonard too much respect he gave the first 4 rounds away before he even got started......i was a big Hagler fan i wanted him to win he just had that air of menace and complete dedication that impressed me at the time but for me Leonard outwitted him every way around.....as you'll remember they could of fought years previous but Leonard saw how much he'd slowed in the Mugabe fight and knew he was ripe for the picking....regards Leonard not hurting him you have to remember Leonard was not only coming up 2 weight divisions but also going in against one of the toughest most durable fighters to ever get in a ring he was never expected to hurt Hagler......you may remember many of the pundits of the day predicting that if Leonard was to win it could be in an Ali/Foreman rope a dope scenario.....but Leonard with his cocky nature surprised everyone by actually standing infront of Hagler on many occasions.....for me Hagler was the second greatest middleweight in history and it was a shame the way he went out as that loss i believe hurt him for the rest of his life and although never admitted it publicly really didnt like or respect Leonard.....Hearns he thought the world of and Duran he acknowledged was a legendary fighter of the era....but Leonard i think just left a sour taste in his mouth and a bit of disdain for the sport itself. Anyway apologies for a somewhat over enthusiastic reply the mid eighties were the greatest most enjoyable time of the sport for me as an early twenties local prospect myself with just a complete love and obsession for the game, just brings back happy memories the anticipation and excitement for those last 3 Hagler fights Hearns in 85,Mugabe in 86 and Leonard 87 its like you knew you was watching an icon of the sport coming to an end and just willed him to win for that reason alone.
