Boxing At The Weekend...

Without a doubt, that's no excuse, it was his character that had the final say, he wasn't the only fighter to have been born in dire poverty, look at Jack Johnson, Sonny Liston, Joe Frazier, Tyson wasn't unique in that regard.

Loads of them mate, from Mexico to the Phillipines...

Pac man lived on the streets from 14, Hagler was dodging bullets most of his young life, Chavez was poor as a church mouse... its a recurring theme, but it either gives you something or takes something away, unfortunately Tyson reverted to type too many times and showed mental weakness...

Bit of class from Parker, fair play to him

True I think your right about usyk should retire and that parker may struggle but still can't help but think if there was to be one more it should be parker.

People say chisora was usyks toughest fight but I reckon as he'd just moved up n styles make fights it was more just a handful for usyk at that time and finding that weight both ways if they were to fight again now it would be completely different and one sided

Loved Tyson as a kid, I was 10 when he beat Trevor Berbick for the world title.. remember it like yesterday...but.. he wasn't dedicated to the game, you can make all the excuses in the world and say a 20 year old Tyson would beat anyone, the truth is a still young Tyson lost to better fighters, he was 30 when he lost to.Holyfield, 35 when he lost to Lewis.. early 20s when he lost to Buster Douglas (freak punch, or zero preparation?)...

The bottom line is Tyson wasn't mentally strong enough to train properly, live properly, conduct himself properly and he lost to the best he fought as they were... Tyson will always be up there as he was so exciting when he first hit the scene, but he was pretty much finished by 25

Tyson lost it when cus died when he was only 19 a roll model he kept him on the straight. Soon as that man died that was it. You only have to look at interviews when asked about him how he breaks down. Don king f****d Tyson over. Tyson should have picked a better guy than that c**t.

We all know the story mate... point is adversity is there for everyone in life, mental strength is as much a test as physical strength..he's not the first or last to suffer loss, poverty, hardship...but he was not mentally strong enough to make the right decisions and that eventually cost him..

Could he have beat Holyfield or Lewis if he had lived the proper life? Maybe maybe not... the facts are they won and showed his weaknesses...

Definitely not mentally strong enough. Same as many on here that need to smoke dope. That will have kicked up a hornets nest 😂😂

Usyk was 20lb heavier in this dubois fight compared to when he fought  Fury , a proper heavyweight and still getting better at that weight, unbelievable, he'll be thinking there's a bit more left yet I reckon,  i hope JP  gets his deserved shot and payday but he'll be very much the underdog

Didn't realise that. 20 lb! I thought he looked chunkier last night.

He was talking about coming back down to cruiser. At 38. That would be a challenge. He could lose the weight but could he stay strong having lost the weight?

I personally thing the hungry fighter is a bit of a myth peddalled by romantics

There's a few from comfortable backgrounds, but ,statistically, boxers still come from fairly impoverished circumstances. It is one of the few sports that still has a working class base. For a start you don't need to buy a lot of  expensive kit or pay through the nose for tuition.

You've got to be pretty desperate and determined to become a pro. ......what with relentless training and being punched in the head on a regular basis.
