So, I had a wild canary (gold finch) and a domestic one. I guess he decided to strike out on his own.

I think that is an American Gold Finch.

I know mate and it's in it's native country that's why I was asking about the ring.

Well, now that you mention it. it looks like he has an orange band. Which got me searching the web.  There is a private observatory near me that banded some. One was found somewhere in Ontario. Which is a long ways for one of these little guys to fly.
