DogFox123 1,379
I think the only way things will change is with the athletes themselves. It's them that need to embrace testing and show and shout to the world they are clean. Right now its seen as a hindrance and an intrusion but as soon as they get on with it the better. With interviews going like "Yer i came third but i've met every test put in front of me, i'm clean, whanna test me again, feel free..!" Where's the pressure and focus with that, right with first and second thats where! Making sport clean can ONLY come from the athletes... It's in a mans nature to win at all costs, that's the sad part about it.
Silversnake 1,099
If they legalised it performance would always come before safety
gnasher16 31,416
If they were legalised then the values of sport would be lost forever......it would merely be a showcase of the wonders of the modern pharmaceutical industry. The values of sport are defined by the excellence of performance, dedication and commitment.....it also embraces other words such as courage, solidarity, teamwork, health not to mention the basic struggles and conquering that the human spirit can achieve......alone......sport is supposed to show human beings " at their best ". Its been like that since time began our generation cannot allow itself to be responsible for its downfall......im not naive enough to not accept that sport isnt rife with peds it is we know that......there is a lot more than just drugs that enhance performance but the line has to be drawn somewhere and physiological doping must be that line. The solution i dont know....criminal prosecutions ? life bans ?.......i dont know but what i do know is sweeping the problem under the carpet with an all for one and one for all attitude is not the concept of competitive sport i fell in love with. Greengrass 208
Making sure the agencies that test for them are properly funded and independent would be a start Making PEDs legal to use would open up so many chances for abuse it'd be a disaster, young kids just getting into sport being pressured to use them etc you really don't believe they are pressured into taking drugs nowadays? Go watch the documentary Bigger, Faster, Stronger. The agencies are corrupt and are bought off, go read up on the Mayweather scandal. The man is almost certainly a lying, cheating two faced hypocrite. Accusing Pacquiao of cheating and of his team wanting to clean up the sport when he's been doing it all along. Sport is corrupt full stop, bout time folk got their heads out of the sand. May weather cheating !!!
Greengrass 208
Throw the book at them, and any British or other athletes that are exposed also.
Lloyd90 509
Life bans should be enforceable, atm you can fail and by back for the next set of games

I think it comes down to human nature mate, you just won't stop it. To be at the top of the tree in any single competitor sport like athletics or cycling you need a good bit of the sociopath about you......complete focus on your goal no matter what. It's no great leap then to dope......it will help you be better, faster, stronger.......fair wouldn't even enter your mind because it's not about fair it's about winning at all costs. Look at the amount of blokes who are ready to just start taking roids for no other reason than to look good in a Primark vest top down the disco.......these are not elite bodybuilders, they just want to look like a bloke off films !! No think about an elite athlete......what would they be prepared to do? Even in football they have been jabbing players up to get them through important games........remember Ronaldo in the World Cup final?.......he was off his canister when he came out for that game. There's too much at stake at top level sport and you have to assume your rival is doping, and if your a nutter then you don't care what you have to do to beat them. socks 32,253
Here's a question ... Apparently 90% of the Russian athletes at the 2012 games were doping and they came second to the Americans in the medal count ... So either the Americans are all super human and can even beat Russians on steroids or ???????
Blackbriar 8,569
Russians involved in bribery, corruption and coercion ? Surely not...........
gnasher16 31,416
In my opinion it wont be physical enhancement that ultimately poses the biggest threat to undermine sport but mental enhancement whether that be through the type of rehumanising practises we see in " special olympics " sports where we,re not far off bionic limbs being par for the course or through the type of electrical brain stimulation technology or " mental doping " such as militaries are developing....lets face it military technology has a strange way of spilling over into civilian life as the internet has done. They are going to make for far more controversial questions on sport/life ethics than saying yes to a diuretic and no to anti inflammatorys !
