pianoman 3,589
.303 Wolverine is something else but, as far as lawfully being allowed to shoot with one on UK land under UK firearms laws the real answer to all these points raised, lies with what the Police say is legally possible or not. Does anyone here shoot with one or, know of someone who does with the blessing of the Law? I know they tend to look kinder on applications for an FAC air rifle but a .303 job might be a bigger ask! A 30-40 ft/lb 22 air rifle will certainly be enough at 30 yards or so, but how often do you get that close to a fox to make it worthwhile? Not to mention whether or not it is legally allowed?I still say you need a proper cartridge rifle liike a .22LR, 223, .243 or a shotgun to tackle fox poblems properly. And then you still need the police to clear the land for such calibres. If there's no problem, there's no problem! The logical step is go have a word with them and see what you can have. Or not!I don't want to see a lad here being done like a criminal for the sake of a bit of pest control, though, God knows there's a lot of miserable, ill-informed buggers out there who would love to see just that! Best wishes to all.Simon 1 Quote Link to post
tomburras 2,730
If you have a shotgun get some Heavy eley alpha max cartridges and call them in. Keep the range to 30 yards - although classed as a pest they still deserve upmost respect. Some may have other opinions on range but closer the better. Quote Link to post
Bunnyblatter 1,012
I'm sure phil price and Roy Lupton did a piece on YouTube about foxes and FAC air but I'm pretty sure it was a bigger cal than .22 1 Quote Link to post

VWman 232
As a starter just on the first rung of the ladder I thought that Foxes are a mater for the Farmer and his game keepers and not for vermin control and not for Air rifles. At this time of year when game keepers are putting down £250,000 worth of pheasants they have there hands full. You have asked the question but have you talked to the farmer,Just saying I am not having a go. Quote Link to post

Ask most farmers whether there gamekeepers take care of the foxes for them mate see what reply you get.not every farm is looked after by a keeper mate 1 Quote Link to post
villaman 9,982
Not every farm have a game keeper ,i shoot on two of them and both farmers are not into shooting either 1 Quote Link to post
moxy 617
Ask your local FAO then let us know the reply Quote Link to post
VWman 232
Some farms may not have game keepers but it should still be down to the farmer/ land owner to say what happens on his land. I know that there are lots of really good hands that have been there and seen it all but these guys know score with what they can shoot and how to do it. Quote Link to post

So what is the law on this situation just so I know ? Quote Link to post
Rez 4,961
At the end of the day, this a 'waste of time' post. Not offence to the OP. None at all, but a fox is out of the realm of 'air guns'. End of. Its all down to energy, irrelevant of calibre. There isn't enough per mass. 2 Quote Link to post

I've seen a video on YouTube of someone using an S410 successfully on a fox that had been baited in close... but I can't remember if it was FAC or not.
