bird 10,014
As above Temperament of your dogs, only put this up as my young dog Buck got a Brilliant Temperament .He 3 in august so still young dog really, but I think at his age now (what you see is what you got) , having had lurchers good while now, norm if there temps are sharp with people or dogs you deff see it well before now , from what I found over the years . Been at my new place 7 months now, and met loads of different dogs , all shapes+ sizes , and being honest Buck been Brill with them. Norm people are frightened of him, because of his size+power, well I can understand that, because if I was walking a dog and I seen him = Buck coming towards me I be the same very wary of him. But the amount of people , who once they realise he just big soft thing , all say what great temp he got for a big dog. And ive worked him hard this last couple seasons , he deff knows how to use his teeth, power, had some great nights out with him. And it got me thinking that most lurchers ive had and seen all been worked, and there temps were spot on with people+ dogs, same as some gundogs, and terriers , all owned by people who worked them and put the time/training to get level headed dogs. ok you get few don't, but 90% do I think . was out this morning and seen 2 couples with young dogs and puppy's , the young pup was a black cocker only about 3 months old. I walked up to the couple held Buck on the collar , Bryn just pisses of and does his own thing lol, I could see they were nervous of Buck, told them he daft wont hurt there pup, they let the pup off , Buck had smell of him. then the next thing Buck was laying down on the floor with the pup on his head nibbling Buck ears that's great temp he done that so pup could play with him the pups owners though he was great, this say it all I think. 2 Quote Link to post
mushroom 14,216
Mine is a rebellious, obnoxious, dog obsessed cnut. He will pick the best moments to shame the fuuck out of me. Doesn't give a fuuck about anybody but me yet takes the piss at every opportunity. Will just run over to dogs regardless of size/English c**t screaming after him and start play fighting. Misses 3/3 rabbits...... I fuuckin love him 1 Quote Link to post

I reckon you have some great sport with as he matures, I deff have with Buck when they get to Buck age you can reap all the hard work you put in mate , and get the results Quote Link to post
mushroom 14,216
Bollocks I'd give my left nut to have another dog with the boring temp that Trevor had..... Switch on when necessary and off when not.... This cnut doesn't even have a switch 1 Quote Link to post
Chid 6,835
My dog didn't turn dog aggressive till 5yr old , before that he was the softest dog you could imagine... Take nothing for granted where dogs are concerned..... 2 Quote Link to post
slip lead 862
Most dogs are good, UNTIL they have a bad experience with another dog, and then it can be month/years before its resoled, and with some dogs never the same again. There a knob that walks a first cross Alsation/Husky and a pit cross and it's only a matter of time before they KILL another dog. I was on the other side of a six foot fence, if it wasn't there me and me dog would of Copt it, when I shouted at there owner to get his dogs under control, the f#####g idiot said there only saying hallow 1 Quote Link to post

dytkos 17,982
My bitches are great with all other dogs, I always keep the old terrier on the lead but put the male lurcher on the lead when we meet other dogs unless we know them. When I'm out I usually have 4 dogs with me so sense prevails. Male lurcher is generally sound but we do meet idiots Usually with Huskies, Staffies, Alsations or similar, some who I have seen chasing swans up the estuary at low tide Better to not give them the opportunity, I keep them in tight and "deter" other dogs from coming close if poss Hope her indoors is getting better mate Cheers, D. leethedog 3,071
A dont see why you named the breeds of the dogs its the people that have the dogs you should of said idiot s with dogs nothing to do with the breedsome breeds of dog just seem to soak up idiosy off owners more imo 1 Quote Link to post
leethedog 3,071
Still not the breeds faultno but why people living in a suburban area buy a dog that is in need of 5_10 miles a day is beyond me 1 Quote Link to post
bunnys 1,236
There can allways be mishaps but being sociable each and every day goes along way ,ta keeping thy animals cool etc.maulings and early scares from dogs etc can and does have lasting affects . My jaz had a period of mistrust from being knocked about by a grumpy bull xs when only a few mths old ,I stuck with her and she came through but there were thousands of apologises along the way she likes has buck has a great temp soft and switched in the field only last week a terrier nipped her nose she blanked it ,as pleasure to be round but at times there was my doubts through one little indiscretion , and nay not knocking any breed the bull xs was mine .atb bunnys. roybo 2,873
My pup is a bit of a silly pup in the house always wants to be with me and really loving (too Much at times)out he's a little suspicious of strange dogs and people, but getting better. His drive to chase anything on the horizon can be unnerving ,and he never sits still, and wants to run constantly , Definitely a lot different to his mother who was a bull cross, she was far steadier and less hyper, doesn't sulk like him and less sensitive ,can't say I've done anything different, raising him. But I'm happy with him so far. 1 Quote Link to post

blackmaggie 3,377
i have had more grief from pet owners normally fat labs or collies that only get out at weekends that any worked lurcher mainly owned bull xs of 1 st cross or 5/8 3/8 and found them no real bother with pups kids or strange dogs unless they came over all agresssive in fact they were more laid back and better to say and has loyal has anything as good as gold until something kicked them of that said i wouldnt put up with a dog aggressive dog no matter how good it was 1 Quote Link to post
