bird 10,014
on news tonight, any dog that kills a person now, the owner can get up to 14 years inside, and if it attacks a person or danger to other animals could get up to 5 years inside . wonder if will make any difference to the people who own such like dogs .? don't think it will as , you always get the wrong kind person to own certain type of breeds . and with summer around the corner , always seem to be more people+kids bitten by dogs in that time of the year . bird 10,014
What if its guarding your property? I think the law now is, that the as to be under control 24/7 with its owner or the dog in a secure place , not like as before where you have loose patrolling etc. so the effect of a guard dog wont be as great as before I don't think, but in saying that if a real pro thief wanted to get in anywhere , a dog wouldn't bother him , he prob shoot or poison the dog . a copper (cid) told me years ago after I got burgled , that the best dogs are yappy anything to make a noise jack etc , but said Alsatians are very good because there yappy but big with it and can be nasty , but he said as above a proper thief will get past a dog no prob

dare 1,103
Think having a big dog just makes most scumbags go somewhere else. Who they gonna rob the house with the dog or the place thats empty or occupied by an old couple. Not too long ago the door went and my mum got it. Could hear her talking and being nosey thought ill come down to see who it is. Was a bloke who knocked on the door selling sea food? Van was meant to be parked up the road or some bollocks. Told him it seems dodgy as f**k and let him know someones always in my house with the dog. He didnt even try to explain himself just turnt around n walked off. No doubt upto no good n makes you wonder would he have talked his way in if it was an elderly woman at the door.

BGD 6,437
Honestly unless your dog has been properly trained it's really unlikely to actually defend your home from intruders especially if you're not there, you've spent its whole life teaching it to be subservient to the humans it meets you can't expect it to realise that situation is different, the amount of burglars that have been greeted with wagging tail by the big bad "natural guardian" dog that puts on a good show from behind the gate is silly. A big dog barking is usually enough of a deterrent you just have to hope no one actually tests it Edited March 18, 2015 by BGD
rabbit demon 302
Hopefully it will put the idiots off keeping powerfull breeds who dont have a clue how to keep them under control. have to be a good few examples made first for it start working, if it does work. slip lead 862
Thats why you need a Guarding breed, an Alsation is one of the best for playing with the kids then guarding the place when needed, Alsation know the difference between a face they know and a face they don't. But a lot of the GSD of today with there sloped backs are now we're near as athletic as the old Alsation.
leegreen 2,250
What if its guarding your property? If your dog attacks someone and you can't control it i.e get it off, then your nicked. Your dog needs to release when told. You could always make it bite again if you fancy .
