Thinking Of Keeping My Lurcher Out Full Time

Recommended Posts

I have had my lurcher for 2 years in November. She has been a house dog, But i have had a kennel and run built for her.

When i was at the OH's at the weekend i left her outside in a kennel and run with another young lurcher over night. She whined when initally shut in, but quietened down, started when it went dark but stopped again and I'm presuming obviously went to sleep.

I'm thinking of keeping her outside more often as she was so much more responsive to my commands when I then had her out for a walk. She can sometimes be a bit of a prat and play the "you cant catch me" game, if she doesnt want to be put back on lead, But she didnt bother at all this time. It was as if she would come straight away because she wanted the contact and attention with me.

What do you lot think?

How many of you keep yours outside full time?

dogs are very routine animals, and changing them about can take more time than we think, and re housing them is one .! I keep my lurchers out side always have, only as I don't want dogs in the house .Had dogs in before got fed up with dog smell etc. , they go out 2-3 times a day(walks) plus when I work them, they see me enough lol. the dog 2 year old you say, so at this age it should responsive to you now , my young dog same age retrieves, heel, jumps, all on command , because I done it from 10 weeks old,and still give him a session once a week now. regards the dog being in or out makes no difference to it being biddable I don't think, its personal choice where you want the dog to be, for me dogs live outside .

I will introduce her to her kennel and run slowly. she was left outside at the OH's for the simple fact she was quiet and obviously content, and we didnt see the need to set all the other dogs off! I will see what i decide to do, I dont mind her being out during the day whilst im working, not too sure overnight yet. they only have access to two rooms downstairs anyway.

I have had them in the house and in the run,my older bitch was out until 12 months then came in .I have pups in for a few month to learn them some manners ,then start them in the run all day and bring in during the night then start to leave them out ,no hassle once they realise you ain't letting them out

I wouldn't buy a kennel and then feck around getting the dog used to it just in the hope it gets more responsive and easier to train.

mine are outside because they stink and there's too many kids about here.
