Starting A Lurcher Lamping

Recommended Posts

I currently have a 6 month old lurcher (shown in picture). He's great to recall and I've taught him the 2 commands I think I'll need which is sit and stay. I was just wondering at what age should I take him out and show him with other working dogs, I've been told 9 months is good to start taking them out and 12 months to start running him. Also post a picture of your dog or pup.

I have never seen the point of taking a pup to WATCH another dog working ... They are not monkeys as in monkey see monkey do ... In my experience all it does is get the dog wound up and excited then f

My old dog was ready at 9 months you could just tell. This pup I've got now is approaching 12 months and he would catch easy but another month everything will be baled and the ground will be softer so

I'm not sure exactly, but both his parents are good working dogs so if I put in the time he should turn out a good dog hopefully. I was lucky enough to have him for nothing from my uncle, thanks for t

Everyone says different things but tbh, I'd say it's whenever you think he's ready. Mentally and physically atb

Very true. I had a dog at 6 months I occasionally let him come out with me and mouth rabbits just to get a feel for the job and it did him a world of good. On the other hand I have a bitch that I never took out she was too prey driven and taking her out and not letting her run would do nothing but stress her out. As for letting them have a run make sure there fit, the rabbits are easy and youve put the time in which im sure you have. There no given answer you just need to stack the odds in your favour.

Thanks for all the replies, he's came out of his shell a lot but I'm not sure if he's ready for it mentally. He's a very physically fit and fast dog because I take him out for long walks and bike rides. Thanks for the advice as I'm relatively new to the hunting scene.
