Stud Dogs

Recommended Posts

Just reading some of the topics thought i would start this one.

What proves a good stud dog as in how often would he have to produce a decent pup.Or what percentage of bitches should he suit if he got say 5 or 6 bitches should he trow a couple of decent pups .Would have thought if their was no decent pup from 5 or 6 litters of him maybe he would be classes as a failed stud.Maybe people think a dog should be judged on 1 or 2 litters or 10 litters be nice to see what people think.????????

The quality of the bitch will determine,at times, the quality of the stud, does,nt always work out like this as lining dross to dross often throws up a pearl at times.Good dog over Good bitch, hey presto.

Both parents are equally important. Yes, the stud dog may throw one or two pups in his likeness, just as the bitch may seem to influence a couple more than the others, but the majority are usually a blend of both parents, as well as their grand parents and those before them, so saying a good stud dog will throw good pups out of a floor cloth is pure fantasy. If someone did get a brilliant litter out of a mediocre bitch and a good dog (performance wise), then if the whole litter turn out well it is much more likely that there were good dogs back in her line and the pups have thrown back to them.

Plus, if a dog, or bitch, is only mediocre in its work, that may well be due to the idiots who own them, maybe having ruined what might have been a good animal in the right hands. There are far too many variables to consider when breeding to base everything on the quality of the dog.

Kings darky was put to a collie lurcher and i seen a fair bitch from the mateing. I think he was only put to about 7 bitches not all good ones and their were fair pups out of every litter .According to mr king himself the more saluki in the mix the more wastage .Thats ok for him but if like me yea pay 1000 for some of the wastage its not so great.I would give 2000 for pup of darky and a poodle if i could get one now.
