I love that style of hunting/mouching,...   Obviously,..such wee curs and mongrel types are not going to fill a van with a hundred conies,. or a pile of hares,..and if I was still keen to travel,..

Tough dogs those Aussie dogs! This Pic I saw recently, and thought I would share

F,J you was not alone a guy local to me had one from a pup but it never made anything, also When I used to help out at the shows, I spoke to a guy at ponta pike in county duruham he had one and said t

Theres an old lad across the valley from here who has a New Zeland Huntaway, its not working but he's out most of the day, everyday with it and physically and mentally has always struck me as a cracking type of herding dog to put into a lurcher.

Huntaways...

Fabulous working dogs fellah,..truly rough and tough and invaluable to the shepherding guys,...

I've kin,.in both Australia and New Zealand, using herding dogs on a daily basis and they speak highly of the Huntaway.....

The breed has been selectively bred over a long time, to literally seek out and find its quarry (sheep) and to encourage it,.by dint of a loud bark,.to come into line.....and when I say bark,..I do mean, BARK...

This is what they do....

Yes them days was care free for sure, I wish they could be re lived over and over again. I have to say I didnt have a penny to my name and I was living by the seat of my pants, but none of that mattered with Fran around she made a big difference in my life and has left a big void now shes gone.958833c9-b092-4ef2-9c45-eea5ba95e48f_zps118e2a72-e281-42e5-b2de-b8234618f646_zps

AS for Cattle dogs,.well we have plenty of Border Collies and Kelpies, here in the UK that will push cattle around,.but although some will use a bite,.. alongside a bark,..there are very few lines that actually hit as hard as genuine Oz Heelers or other purpose bred, biters..

I no longer keep Heeler lurchers, because my own line,.straight from dogs that I saw working,.has died out,..and although we have a fair few Oz Cattle Dogs here in the UK now,..I don't fancy using them,...

Personaly,..if I wanted a similar creature to my original types, I would go for a nice strong Border Collie or Kelpie Sire over a smart ,.'up and at em',...hare coursing bitch....

But,..these days, being a rabbit hunting ditch crawler and hedge buster ,...I only need my wee collie curs....

All the best, Phil.

I'm rather partial to a wee collie cur myself Phil

I am seriously thinking of a herding type as my next canine. Don't get me wrong I am over the moon with what I have but there's something about these brainy types that I miss. I also need something that can be worked in forestry/flinty ground with habit of regularity and have the bone and feet to forgive the odd knock.atb

Speckle, I watched those vids til they wore out lol, I even saved me pennies an bought a first cross, she threw to the ACD, a lovely bitch a pleasure to have around, real clever and trainable with it, unfortunately a dreadful lurcher. She just would not chase, not a thing. She was 2 and a half when I finally threw the towel in , gutted I was.
