Lurcher Terrier and Whippet Show and Raceday in Baltinglass County Wicklow on 30th of March all qualifiers for 5 nations and Master Mcgragh, more details closer to event

Hi Tommy what is this show being run in aid off, just like to know what I am supporting.

Lurcher Ireland (tommy cullen) is only in dogs to make money for him self. I have never ever seen any one ask to judge a lurcher at a show and try to sell his DVD in the ring at the same time as judgi

spot on dez , if anyone in the hunting game is only in it to line there pockets i have no hesitation in saying i will not help fill them pockets. there are enough packs struggling for funds and plenty of organisations that would greatly benifit from any funds they can get....... money raised in the dog game should stay and benifit the dog game.......

if thats yer aim lads i wish ye the best and hope ye do well,

Is there some rule if people run a show it has only to be for a charity, ? Is there some thing wrong with the organisers making a profit,,, ? sound like your a bit jealous... they put a lot of time and effort in the show , hope they make a mint...

mate, my point is simply this, there are some of us who support as many shows as we can,i only missed 1 show last year, all the shows on the circuit that i know support a charity or a hunt pack, charity,be it cancer, you never know when it'll come knocking on your door (the Rathnew show),or say the lisgould show whos proceeds go to a local kids school or the many hunt packs be them the Waterford, the rockview or a new show this year The kilmagany, god knows these hunt packs need the money to keep things running smoothly.so i'll support them. now for those of you who pick and choose which shows you attend, wouldn't it be better to support a show whos proceeds were going into something worthwhile rather than a session down the local for the organisers to see it pissed up against a wall at the end of the night.p.s. I know all about the time and effort it takes to run a show.

Well said Aslan about supporting the shows.. How many clubs out there raise money for the cancer support.. I know wicklow Lurcher terrier and whippet club does.. The members of the Wicklow Lurcher terrier and whippet club support a lot of the shows but I was sorry to see last year a very bad turn out to the wicklow show which supports cancer support .. So can the organisers of the baltinglass show please let the public know where the money raised is going and who are the judges on the day ........!!!!!!! P.s I don't want to stand on anyone's toes but the public have a right to know

I have never ever seen any one ask to judge a lurcher at a show and try to sell his DVD in the ring at the same time as judging . He, with all his pics on Facebook and his greed to make money out of a sport that so many of us love, will bring much un-wanted attention from the anti-hunting brigade. he will be the only one that will gain in the end . I for one will not be supporting any show that puts money before the sport itself.

Yes I completely agree with bullcross13, Mr.Cullen judged a show down south, while selling his DVD while in the ring, he must of forgotten his classes that day cause several top lurcher men and women left the field disgusted .. I also remember readying an article stating that he wouldn't deal with shows and game fairs and most certainly wouldn't judge as he wouldn't like to down grade a working dog.. Can someone tell me how he changed his tune over night.. Simply cause of greed, and publicity..

Shield, I think you are being a little unfair to Dessie. He is a dog man through and through and has been one of the top winners and judges of terriers internationally as well as in Ireland. I know for a fact Dessie puts a lot back into dogs through various sponsorships/donations etc and when I attended his Christmas show I said to my wife as I went away - that must have cost Des some money. I would suspect his judging will actually cost money because when he was one of three judges at Birr in the FN - he didn't take his expenses that were offered! I don't know whether Des has ever kept whippets but you don't have to keep a particular kind of dog to be able to judge what is a good one - the BIS judge at Crufts doesn't keep all the types of dogs they judge and obviously Des has judged the best of whippets when he has judged BIS.

I have given a little sponsorship this show because I thought it was good to have some more shows in the south so that people didn't have too far to travel to qualify for our FN and Master McGrath events but as someone who knows how much it costs to put on even a small event I didn't really think it important to ask Tommy how he was going to disperse his profits ( I any). I am sure it will become clear after the show when and if profits are actually made. AlbertJ

Its quite clear "shield" that out of the 10 posts you have made from joining THL under this " new name" that most of your posts are directed at Dessie Mackin and either running the man or his shows down. Hidden agenda maybe????? You were quite willing to attend his show (or you said you attended his show!!) two weeks ago ,so whats changed in those two weeks? If your view was that he is into dogs for money why did you attend his show then run it down on here afterwards?. Your hidden agenda and lies are catching you out and its plain for all to see.

The Keep er Lit Dog Show and Raceday Sunday 20th July 2025
Doagh Equestrian is situated on the beautiful Antrim coast in the village of Doagh, Co Antrim. This was a new venue for the “Keep er Lit” Dog show and Race day and the ideal spot for   last Sundays Show.
From early morning, cars and trailers arrived from North and South of the border. Some people came as far away as Limerick and Drogheda with families and dogs in tow. Our good canine folk love a good dog show in the summer and a chat with like minded people. They certainly were not disappointed at the Keep er Lit show.
As the show progressed, so did the banter and the craic. The rings were well spaced out with a good long race track. Paul Boyd was there with his country sports stand, with everything needed in the hunting fraternity.
Some very tasty burgers were available on site and an Equestrian shop with great discounts on offer on the day. I had to take control of my retail therapy when I got into that shop, as I was like a child in a toy shop with to much to choose from.
The weather was glorious all day and at times to warm. As usual the raffle generated a great buzz around the field with some great prizes on offer.
The show started with the racing first at approximately 12.30
Here are the Racing and Showing Results

      Congratulations to all above winners.
And Finally, may I take this opportunity to thank the judges and their ring stewards on the day,on behalf of the Keep er Lit Team for a job well done.
Strong Dog Judge : Gareth Barnett
      Lurcher Judge       : Gerard Melaugh
      Whippet Judge      : Colin Maguire
      Terrier Judge         : Martin Breen
      Pets Judge             : Gail Ross
Judging is not an easy job, but you were consistent and fair, and very successful with the end product.
The racing was carried out as usual to perfection by The Mc Grath Racing Club Carlow. These people have many years experience in the Canine world both in showing and racing and their input helps to alleviate the pressure on the show organizer on the day. A job well done Biddy and team.
Some lovely photographs were taken on the day by various people, and no doubt these will be up on the site shortly.
And Finally, Finally, they say behind every good man is a good woman and Leigh Thompson along with Paddy Gibson, you both definitely fitted into that category. Your show was run with impeccable organisation. It was evident on the day a lot of hard work and sleepless nights was put into  this now annual Show. Leigh and Paddy you pulled out all the stops on the day and produced a top class show in a top class venue. Well done and a credit to you both.
I am Looking forward to more of the same in 2026. Thank you for the memories. To we meet again God Bless.
