TOMO 28,404
In most respects,, I don't think it matters,, I've seen dogs started from having there jabs,,like some on here do,,,I have also started some of my dogs at around 6 month age,,, and have started dogs at around 1 year old.. And I wouldn't say those dogs started early are better,,,not a chance... But there no worse either,,, I also don't hold with dogs that are started early,, get used to gates and all the rest of it,,, cos if your doing things right there doing all this in the day... I do believe in getting them out though from an early age,, daytime walks mooches,, or ferreting,,, 3 Quote Link to post

Sirius 1,391
Maybe there's a element of making this easier for the owner. If truth be told how many take a pup lamping as they don't want it sat yapping in the house or kennel when they go out with the other dogs? I can't see any other benefit taking a dog from 8 weeks and I am all for early socialisation. Train them first, let them grow and enter when ready, each ones different! I don't see the rush, not worth the risk IMO. Quote Link to post
fitchet 788
Ive got a pup staying with me at the minute hes been here for about a week now coursing bred and already hes come on abit going through gates and barbed wire you cant beat getting them out nice and early in and around cover and stock. I also like to introduce them to fur quite early so hopefully when they do start searching for scent themselves its slightly familiar to a young dog. Id say what i do with pups though is just socialisation ive learned my lesson before by overmatching a dog when it just wasnt ready for it and its sickening. Atb Quote Link to post
liam-loughran 1
My old bitch was killing winter hares at ten months old, somthing else that dog, ive heard so many different people say different things. I think only you will know when your dog is ready it all depends on the dog Quote Link to post
Flacko 1,756
I know a lad who's pup accidentally got run on a rabbit when he was about 6 month old yapped when rabbit pulled away, so he got rid 4mnth later dog was bringing good bags in no yapping lad sick now so hold back a bit and if a pup gives a little yap don't give up on him just give them time yappin just frustration in young dogs usually Quote Link to post
