byron 1,272
I owned and lived in a double deker for a couple of years (the same as the one with the car inside it)and there hard work to be inside in all day as you have to stoop most of the time(and all the time when upstairs) and your well restricted on where you can travel. Not just low bridges but hanging branches and shit ground clearance is the bigger factor,a horsebox the very same as the above pic was the best living space i had in praticle sence and wish i still had it.You should look at a luton box on a transit or even a merc Gem,easy for parts all over europe and the luton will be a up out the way bed space with room for a few clothes cupboards, forget the bog bit and buy a good spade and bury it as who the feck wants to sit and listen and smell someone having a shit in the same room really? and get a camping shower as even in good money trailers it's the shower room that fecks up first with rotting .As for heating a small little gas bottle sized wood burner will keep it compy in winter and if your carefull with how you put the windows and rear wall and door in you can keep it looking very straight and your'll get less hassle when camped up somewhere . good info there fireman,,people can go over the top,,bucket/solar shower,,cheap as.ya need to fit solar panels etc..got one on mine, and change all your interior lights to led..[ebay] get em from china...seen a hippy lass last year in one of those bt lorry type thingies,,but fuel will kill ya..dogs appearing from all the cubby holes they come with,,what ever you do enjoy..google wild camping for motorhomes..

fireman 11,398
The thing about campers like that is they are only ment to be used a feww weeks a year and are built of shite wood, this will not take every day living of dogs and people and it'll soon start to fall apart and there small spaces to spend your life in imo.As for fuel being a issue a double deker will do about 10 mpg a old tk horse box(like in the pic a few pages before)20-25 mpg and a MJ,MK 4x4 15-20 mpg but who really needs a 4x4 camper that big and in all the years i was living in trucks, buses etc(15+) no one i knew really needed it on a living wagon as who ever drives out into a muddy place that you need a lorry like that to get to just to live there?. . WWW.Traveller homes.co.uk. oh we had a laugh with those old motors
Westy76 546
I live in a single skin static what ever you get gem insulate the crap out of it as it does get fecking cold or a small wood burner to keep the chill off,I've got spark here for oil fill rads. If you got no mechanical knowledge get someone to go with you to look at whatever you decide on.

kruby01 114
I can't really help with the camper other than to say if you aren't in a rush then keep your eye out regularly. I'm moving into a static next week that I just picked up for £200. It's structurally sound with no rotting or leaks it just needed a bit of an update which is proving to be a nice little project for me. It's nearly ready to move into and then I'll Carry on with the little jobs once I'm in. I've taken pics from the start too so I will have start to finish. I'm also moving with three dogs. Good luck with the move gem

The Seeker 3,048
Good luck with this Gem, I have very little experience with living in a caravan other than holidaying in them for loads of years but what I will say is if you are not mechanically minded get some basic training if you have a mate who knows about mechanics on how to carry out basic vehicle repairs, this will be priceless if you are going to travel around Europe. It's no fun breaking down in the middle of nowhere in a foreign country. Have you also considered one of these RAC or AA break down cover? One I have protects me and if it can't be fixed will tow me home I'm sure you can get this cover to include Europe which might be useful if the shit really hit the fan and you were properly stranded. Your doing what ive always wanted to do before life took over with work kids etc, good luck
