What Type??

I've been considering a bushing dog for a while now to be used for flushing to the lurchers, I'm just wondering what you opinions are on the different breeds that would suit me best, I hunt lots of bushes and gorse and would like the dog to flush all types of quarry?? What would you go for?

I got a cocker 2 years ago to work with my 2 lurchers. spot on for flushing to the lurchers!

a jack russel or boarder terrier,or the patterdale and lake land terrier all good bushing, to be honest all rounders!

I was thinking along the lines of a spaniel to be honest but obviously terriers are handy dogs to have around but aren't they always going to ground?

Not all terriers go to ground. First time iv had a cocker but i won't go back to using terriers to flush game to my lurchers.

The only thing that puts me of spaniels is there quiet, i like a dog to give tounge.

Spaniels are good dogs but not cheap. Expressly just to have one just for flushing to lurchers, is a bit heavy on the pocket. How about a Spaniel/Terrier x, or a Spaniel/Beagle x, or a Beagle/Terrier x.

I'm biasd but you won't bet a well schooled pack of beagles..................why cross something that has been bred for the job?

 

spaniels only have one gear in my book and it's hard for the lurchers to read them and me for that matter..............

dont think he wants a pack of beagles if he is hunting brambles and thick cover he is better with a cross that gives voice and is not gone 10 fields away

spaniels for me with out crossing are two bizzy at times beagle x rusell with a touch of spaniel are the best ive seen work cover
