WILF 50,052
The yanks will have someone lined up to run the gaff until it suits there purpose to replace them with someone else. I cant see the end result for the middle east, but greater minds than mine have it all worked out I am sure........I suppose a strong united middle east is of no benefit to the oil hungry nations of the west, keep it all up in the air and them killing each other and you will surely get at least a couple of leaders of oil nations willing to dance to the wests tune

Malt 379
Me personally, I'd support military intervention if there was a clear aim to it and it would actually have a result, but what good would launching a few tomahawks do in a situation like Syria? The opposition fighters are no better than Assad, some of them a lot fecking worse, so removing him aint going to solve shit.. The problem is these middle eastern and north african states were carved into western style countries after various conflicts and the population in them are always going to be split along the lines of what version of Islam they follow rather than where they live. There will never be peace, at least not in our time IMO.. The only way it works there is if one lot of them oppressing the other lot to maintain some sort of peace and control. The only Islamic country which has ever managed to grasp the idea of nationhood over being split along various lines of sectarian divides is Turkey, and even then the military has stepped in several times since the country was formed out of the remnants of the Ottoman Empire to maintain its secular nature..
