thats good going-i get out 2-3 times a week in the season with my own dogs-and not always game at home-dug 1 of my pups 12 times-he needed the rest-tad on the hard side and i bought a patt bitch end

Have had 8 digs in a day none were testing or over 4 foot . Dug 5 in stop ends twice either was these testing digs. (Preban) id rather have one testing dig to educated quarry in a good earth where dog

That's good going. I think it all depends on how much good permission you have, added with how many decent dogs you have around you that get the dig numbers up throughout a season. I've heard of some

a dig is a dig and the dog can only do whats put infront of them but its alawys the testing digs that stick in the memory where they were up against it and seen it through and got job done its these type of digs were the real dogs stand firm and see it out and were the bullies and want to be s come a cropper also many a good dog been molly cuddled by there owners and only dropped in places were owner knew it was a straight forward affair not the dogs fault but if give the chance they d off got job done all the same reminds me of a time we were out on an invite we d had a good morning with a few really nice digs over my mates and my dog the fella took us to a spot more to just show us it anyway i was chatting to the lad that invited us out he was saying big place deep and dangerous its all peaty and very loose could lose a dog easy in there other two mates came round corner and dave says dogs a way a while there must be on we ll go get tools your man just looked at us like we were joking and said did you drop your dog dave says yea sure thats what he s for lol we dug dog with 3 in pocket at about 6 foot lol

Sometimes its not the deep digs that will test a terrier but a handy rangey spot with well educated quarry in it that knows the score and will do everything to give the terrier a hard time.2 seasons ago my mate and I went out for a dig with a young lad that lives near enough to me.He had a patt bitch that was very well bred and had a fair share of diging over her so we decided to see what she was made of.We entered the bitch at about 9.30 and after several attempts to dig to her we finially dug her at about 5ft with her quarry 3 to 4 hours later with her quarry finially pushed up into a stop. This had been a testing dig for the bitch who granted she stuck with it but made very hard work of it as everytime we were about to break through she let it push past and the quarry finially ran out of places to go and we dug down at the back of the bitch to break through. On another occasion we were out and entered a dog and after about 15 min marked him at 5-6 foot in very soft soil so down to him in no time.Dog was blocked back to release quarry to our surprise there were 6 in the stop all released into a different earth just down the hedge. We then went to let dog on and he was gone and when located was working again, this time at 3 ft and after a handy dig broke through to him with 2 more pushed up tight. These 2 digs were easy and straight forward as the quarry were green and had no experience compared to the dig with the bitch.I get more satisfaction out of seeing how my dogs work on a dig than the amount of game that's holed up in it.

I agree fatman after a time in the job its quality that counts not quantity, if your out all through the SEASON and are getting one or two quality digs in good company each week and your dogs are doing it as it should be done , whats better!!!!
