Bull Terrier & Walker Covered In Blood After Attack

Part of being a responsible dog owner is knowing about the breed you own and what it's potentially capable of, and then taking every precaution to avoid it IMO.. If you are unwilling to accept that or write it off because you think it's extremely unlikely to happen to you, I don't think you could class yourself as a responsible owner..

As far as I can see though, any breed is potentially a child killer, but I am not daft enough to think that a bull breed would be better equipped for the job if something did happen. But the argument I always make is about fecking horses, I don't know the statistics but I would guess that the number of people injured and killed by horses either directly or through causing car accidents is worse than dogs, there may be more dog related injuries overall but we have a lot more dogs in the UK.

Horses scare me :icon_redface: and I would rather be backed into a corner by a pitbull than a tonne of lasagne.

I will give you that one mate, much more injuries from horses.

Also, people ( silly women) seem to suffer and make excuses for dangerous horses, there's also not many vets that will just put one down no matter how much of a nutter it is.......but many of these horse owners and vets would see a bully type dog banned in a heartbeat.

Me too.......too big, strong and unpredictable.

I know it's probably different if you spend loads of time with them, but I find horses really hard to read....you can never tell when the fookin things are just going to take off and start running about, or suddenly kick out.

I know 3 or 4 people who've had horses and every single one of them has had a boot at some point!

They are stunning animals....but only if I'm on the other side of the fence!

your right mate thyre even better from the end of a fork

good job , i didnt see it i would shot the thing, what a terrible thing to happen to a little dog.Iwas brought up with bull breeds, and we never had any probs, because they were locked up (safe). i

It makes me sick to read some of the replies on here thinking it was ok for this dog to kill someones little pet, to me these people are no better than the clown with the staffie in the article, THIS

well the owner hasnt even got the strength to say no to pies, so shes got no chance of telling a dog not to do something.   In all seriousness, dogs, big or small, can be bred in a kitchen in the ro

Thing is mate its only to common for these breeds to be owned by idiots. where i am i see silly wee lassies getting hauled along by these dogs, and you think no f*****g way should that be allowed.. irresponsible as f**k,and obviously dont give a second thought about the consequences to there kids.

The cops aswell they only bother thier arse when someone gets mauled or they get a call about some poor c**ts dog being killed.but then they have the power to charge c**ts who let there dogs shit all over the pavements and they do f**k all.i know where your coming from though, and can see why bull owners get pissed off by the comments, but its f*****g getting ridiculous,my own dog has a bit bull in it and ill never own another one. he is a good dog and listens and acts by my tone.but hes a b*****d towards other dogs and some folk.however i know his wee quirks and failings,so he will never be in a position to act on them.

Sorry mate but i fail to see that little bit of bull in the dog has caused it to be against other dogs, i think this is where the problem lies with people being against bull breeds, i think its the owners fault there dogs dont like other dogs as if they are brought up and accustomed to dogs from a young age they will be fine, you carnt just blame that little bit of bull gene on his aggression

Look if its a lab or a bullbreed if it its in the wrong hands it could be a menace yeah but as the bullbreed is bigger in some cases and defo stronger its going to.be more dangerous it dosnt take a genious to work that out; all dogs need training as do new owners.

No disputing they are more dangerous, but to say a dog is aggresive to other dogs because it has a little bull breeding in is pish

Why do people use bull in a mix in the first place? When you cross breed any dogs, you risk introducing traits you might not want into the resulting offspring, not just the ones you're after..

I think it's pretty obvious why people use bull blood in lurchers.

I disagree there, some dogs can be socialised and be sound with dogs then they get to a certain age and bang your once playful bull breed is now full blown dog aggressive and wants to fight everything. Not something you can really blame on the owner but its definitely something you could blame on a century or two of selective breeding for that very trait.

It would be like bringing up a Lurcher not to chase anything then blaming the owner when a hare gets up one day and the dog runs it down and kills, that there is one happy dog fulfilling what his ancestors where bred to do and love....not a bad owner!

I keep a bull breed, not a fighting breed per se but a breed that is more up for a scrap than most and definitely able to inflict serious wounds to another animal quickly.

Because of that I have adequate leads and collars and even though he is a very well socialised steady dog accidents can and do happen so I'm respectful of that and don't let him run with dogs down the local park, I do my best to avoid them if anything. It really is that simple, now if everyone else did the same 90% of accidental dog fights would never happen.

 I know why people use bull in lurchers, but like I said you might get more traits of the breed in a resulting mix than you originally wanted, one of them maybe being a higher likelihood of it being dog aggressive..

same can be sad for all crosses,in a lamping dog i'd rather have one that didn't get on with other dogs than one that yapped like a terrier.

if you have work for a bull x you probably aren't going to want it playing with fufi at the park anyway.

Not something you can really blame on the owner but its definitely something you could blame on half a century of selective breeding for that very trait.

I know thats your opinion and all but me personally think despite the breeding or genes into a dog, enough hard work and you will get a good dog that just wont snap like you say, theres no reason regarding genes and breeding why a once playful pup just turns agressive, each to their own though

..and that's where the responsibility of owning any dog comes into it IMO, you don't allow it into a situation you know isn't suitable for it to be in..

That is an unbelievably naive comment......do you think your couple of years " hard work " as you put it.....removing the trait........can overide the 100+ years it took to stamp the trait in their in the first place ?
