17Hmr Loosing Zero

is it possible your rifle moves zero with a fouled barrel compared to a clean barrel ?

Right this is what happens I sight my gun in at 100 yards and achieve 1inch groups then I lock my turrets. I take it out shooting live quarry and it holds its zero however when I go home put my gun in my cabinet and go to get it a few days later or a week the poi is totally changed and it changes randomly in all directions! I dont move my head when i look through the scope as I feel its comfortable. The mounts are tight and I've been through 2 different sets and it still hasn't changed! I have never dropped the gun or banged it!

The gun has never really had a zero because its has always changed! I sight it on off a sand bag at the back and a mtm rest at the front and I take the bipods off when I do this

I havnt got another scope to use on my hmr unfortunately, is it more likely to be a problem with the scope?

Also I clean the gun after every use with a bore snake and every 100 shots I will clean it with a rod and solvent

Are the baffles in the mod falling apart?

 

It seems odd, and frankly that doesn't help a lot, but I can't really see it being anything but the scope, but I still don't really get it after that description?

I will sight my gun in at 100 yards so that I get a group of 3 in around 1inch and a half and go out lamping that night and it shoots fine(bullet hits where I aim) when I'm finished I head of straight home put the gun in my cabinet until next time( bare in mind the scope doesn't touch the cabinet at all)

Take it out a few days later and my shots sometimes are not even on paper! And I havnt touched the gun!so if I want to go shooting I have to give my self time before to sight it back in every time! Is that any better?

Ok, perhaps it was me who didn't put it across clearly ..... I hear what you say and do and what happens...but that doesn't add up, something is happening somewhere and I can see nothing obvious, but to repeat, scope!?

I have the same problem with my CZ style too

I have changed the scope and mounts it didn't make any difference

 

My next step is to zero the rifle and mark the SAK moderator then take it off and put it back on to see if the mark ends up in a different place and see what it shoots like

 

I have noticed that the nickel barrel gets warm well before my other normal CZ blued barrel ?

 

If that don't work its going back to Edgar brothers for them to sort ...

my money would be on the scope.the only time i have ever had the same symptoms it was an air wolf daystate and the barrel was moving

Make sure that the barrel is not touching the stock. Slide a sheet of paper between the stock and barrel back to the action to ensure clearance. Check to see if the front sling screw does not go through the stock and touch the barrel when in the firing position.

Has it ever had a consistent zero ? eg ; group of 3 in a 2" bull at 100yds

 

The Style was not designed to have a Floating Barrel, and it hardly matters anyway on a HMR, virtually everyone who mounts a bipod on any of the plastic stock CZ Rimfires, and many of the wood stocks, ends up contacting the barrel, so does anyone who uses a sling, they tend to be rather flexible!

 

I wouldn't totally agree with all of that Dekers. I've had x4 CZ rimfires, and still own 2. X2 in wood, one in .22, one in .17hmr. And the same again in plastic. Only one was affected by either using a bipod or resting the stock on any given surface with a little downward pressure, this did result in the stock touching the barrel, and that is my current .17 hmr Silhouette. All i did was fit another sling/bipod stud a further 2-3 inches down the stock and job done with no more problems.

Having said that, the current CZ plastic stock is way too flexible!!...........

When you put it back in the cabinet do you take the MOD off?. If you take the MOD off and give it a tap you'll see loads of , what looks like, unspent powder. If you rub this between your fingers it's all gritty. If you're putting the rifle back in the cabinet barrel up with the MOD still on, it could fall back down the barrel.

Do you take the mod off when sticking it in the cabinet.Ideally you should, however it maybe a case that the mod is not seating right on the thread and is in a slightly different position each time it is remounted. Try it by leaving it on over night once zeroed and compare the next outing. Seen the same thing on my mates 1517 with a jls end can. Zeroed it one day the next it was out. It turned out to be an issue with unscrewing the mod when storing. Left the mod on, zero remained.

I will try with that mod on then guys, I do have to take it off to get it in my bag but I have a longer bag spare somewhere I can dig out!

Tried the gun with no mod today! So far so good! Group sizes are dramticaly reduced to 1/2 inch and even less! And I put it to the test tonight dropped a fox at 170 yards hope its stays fine!
