ollywilli 49
Well I managed to get out on Saturday for a bit on some new permission the fathering in law got me whilst on a trip out to get his new van. I had a little look around in the week before so I knew where to go and what to bring, and then it snowed and thawed and rained some more. It started off been a bit of a foggy day, and about I minus one when I got there. I started of at a small wood. I let neo out the car, picked up the long nets and neo flushed two rabbits out which headed into some old tyres. I set up three 25 yard long nets surrounding the number of warrens in this wooded area and finished of with a 5 yarder to fill the gap in. I strategically put my two hedge nets between two of the warrens, well when I said strategically, a blooming guess. I was glad to have a trial run of one of my new 25 yarders I have just finished off. To let things settle down in there we headed to the tyres where the rabbits went, only put one purse net down and allowed neo free run to learn from the bumps and rumbles . a ferret was entered and in and out of the tyres and there was a warren in there, and I was praying not for a dig!! Well neo could hear thing going on in there Well there was no frantic bolt, two rabbits just hopped out the other side towards the long net slowly, one got it self tangled up slowly whilst the other hopped back out and as I was running for it, it ran into my leg closely followed by neo, on the catch J So next back on to the wood, three ferrets were entered and allowed the to chase them out and about into the wood. Neo was starting to hear the bumps and the rumbles now. Some rabbits bolted for the nets, whilst other went back into other warrens soon to be pushed into the nets. One rabbit hit both of my strategically placed hedge nets, yes hit both, closely followed behind by neo and into the long net eventually. The last rabbit neo knew where is was, he was marking the ground, and then soon moved towards another hole where it suddenly bolted out off. As you can image I was starting to smile now. All went quiet so time to move on. So I moved on to the next spot I found some warrens, the first three were all flooded out and full to the brim with water. So it was on to the not was wet warrens, then even these must have had water in there as the ferrets were coming out wet, and no one home. Then again with the next one no one home, or they could have been if the rabbits went through their water logged holes were the ferrets would not follow?? Neo waiting patiently whilst the nets were brought in. The fog was starting to break now and the sun was coming out. The next warren was netted up and two ferrets entered, only possibly a three holer, but I felt the bump and neo felt it and was straight on the rabbit in the purse net. Some one knew it was coming Neo just waiting The ferrets were re entered, one appeared but the other one didn’t so the locator came out and nothing, so the flask cam out and I sat where I felt the bump for anything else but nothing. Whilst I was sat there Neo kept smelling the same bit of ground, I didn’t think any of it. The locator came out again and nothing so I thought the batteries must have died, so I put another ferret down and she shopped exactly where neo was sniffing so I had a did, lo and behold and ferret, but no rabbit!!! Don’t know how he did that. On to the next hole, these holes were looking good but not much there then I figured out why, as I netted up the next warren I found this. And there was a bolt hole next to this and guess where it bolted from, yes that one wanting to go straight into that hole. Then around the corner I found this These two holes were also water logged, so will hopefully leave them alone for now, and just a good job I didn’t take the terrier. I thought to my self this is shoot land and a game keeper on the land and you have these here?!?!? Eehh Next it was back to around the house, again piled up old farm machinery holes more rabbits. The long net was set up and to ferrets entered. And one rabbit out into the net. The next was a set of brambles to be the last of the day, a long net was set up and two ferrets entered, one ferret found a hole and a rabbit soon emerged, now this rabbit launched out of the holed somersaulted as it came out and hit the brambles and shot off. Neo was trying to find it But to no success, until I heard splash, plop plop plop. At the back of the brambles was a pond where the rabbit had gone through the reeds, neo spotted just as it made it to ground, so once the ferrets came back one was entered. Now neo heard the bumps and decided to stick his gormless head down the hole, so pulled him out, and the rabbit exploded out of the hole and to my amazement it got two foot out of the hole still in mid air neo had it, and I did not believe my eyes. Now I think we have both learnt so much from this trip and I was so pleased with how he did and what he did. EOD And dinner sorted Thanks for reading 5 Quote Link to post
