Cheers.

I was given some broccoli, but not told what type, think it's the purple one. Some plants have thrown a load of yellow flowers some not, but I'm unsure what's right and what's not. I'll get some photos

Sounds like gone to seed. That one I’ve got isn’t far off going to seed.

Cheers.

I did think that, but those that have flowered have not produced anything other than a flowered, no broccoli heads, nothing but leaves

I’ve never had much success with purple sprouting broccoli.

Cheers.

I don't get on with the summer types I find the get to many aphids and them green catapillers and a bugger to wash then out.

The winter Purple sprout I do well with as long as I keep the woodies off. I will put seed (Rudolph) in the next couple of weeks.

I find Rudolph PSB pretty bomb proof.

Make cubes with clear plastic  and sellotape for the toms.

Ive got one cucumber in a glass bottle and one in a plastic bottle, I’ll try to carefully break the glass bottle and cut the plastic bottle off with the dremil.

I use Turbo Clear in my wine during the final racking. Kills all the yeast, stops second fermentation in the bottle and clears the wine .

Cheers.

Never had it before in wine tbh …. And it’s not a nice one to drink , will prob end up down the sink …. Was one of those experiment types …

. I didn’t fancy using glass and getting fine splinters on the cucumber… I’ve a glass bottle though where I’ve  “cut” the bottom off to put a candle under it  , so in theory I could tape a bit of plastic on the bottom and then remove to get the cucumber out .

Wind & Woodpeckers...

Last nights wind damage to my old apple tree. I wonder how long it's got left...

Shaped it up a few years back so everything is now hand pickable, as the fruit is really good. And i keep taking off any new shoots growing upward twice a year. Since then it's produced in abundance every season, which is great, as me and the dogs love an apple.

Problem is, it's diseased, and getting weaker each year. The bloody woodpecker has been having a field day and just about hollowed the tree out, so I've added wire to keep it off. The trees angle is also getting worse. So I've had to take a lot of branches off, to reduce the weight on the lowest side.

I'll do my best to save it, as like the hawthorn hedge, it was put in when the house was built (every garden got a hedge and a fruit tree) and i've eventually managed to grow mistletoe in it.  But the main reasons are that it's original and looks rather nice...

Cheers, the house is from the 30's, so it's that old. Was bloody awful when we first moved in, and for a few years, I had much more to concentrate on. When I did finally shape it up, I was really pleased. And although for 'the rest of the garden' it's in the wrong place, it's original, so it stays...
