tricks when lamping

Have any of you got a trick or two you use when lamping flicking lamp or using filters and what works best

Never shine over a hill before u can into position too get a slip and try and get into a position that ur not going too lose the rabbit in the light so know we're there going too run too help turning the lamp on and off very quickly some times confuse a rabbit also if its a sitter I like too shake the lamp too get them up before the dog gets too close I find if the dog has not seen them when hissed on and following beam can some times over run them missing them on a first turn and know we're ur lamping and were the warrens are can make big improvements on the amount you catch

 

Next christmas ask for a comma

The flicking the beam when a bunny runs up a hedge line works, well it seems to for me. As does a red filter, not only because it doesn't scare game away if lamp shy but I can spot more bunnies with a red filter on, but I put that down to my shitty eye sight lol

Thers not too many "tricks" when it comes to lamping,

 

Basics are whats required,, dark nights, wind in yer face, good dog, and off you go. Light drizzle makes for a great night I`ve found.

 

Sometimes shaking the lamp might move a rabbit thats lying still if the dog can`t spot it.

Never liked red filters,, always been a waste of money IMO.

 

Other than that ! hmm, I dunno. Switch the lamp off if the dogs heading somewhere it shouldn`t, don`t park the car too close to somewhere you`re "just visiting",,

Wear dark clothes,, keep a quiet dog on good recall, and if you find somewhere cracking,,, don`t tell f*****g anyone !
