Uhm the gulf stream gives us the climate we have AFAIK, if that goes. Well, look at the earth in 2D and compare us to other similar latitudes. Get your igloo building skills up to date

ENGLANDS SINKING :bye:

Watched David Attenborough speak about this on the telly the other night and the sea is indeed getting warmer ... If divid says so I believe him ........

the problem comes if melting ice reduces the salinity of the sea and what effects that will have on ocean currents, plus warmer water has more volume than cold water so this will add to the rise in sea levels

It is on the whole but I'm talking about a local effect where the ice is actually melting.. The whole issue has so many variables and unknowns that even the top scientific minds haven't got an exact picture of the way things will actually go.

Paulus mate, I didn't think the Antarctic was getting colder, just there was a thickening of the ice in certain places due to increased precipitation.. :hmm: I thought I read somewhere that the tempreture is on the rise down there too and the ice shelves over the sea are getting thinner on the whole.. :hmm:

The antarctic is warming in places, and getting a little colder in others, the peninsular is warming were as the east is getting colder i think.

The sea ice is growing there, but they think that is because the sea water is becoming more diluted and less salt, so freezes easier i think.

I think its called climate change ;) evolution would be you growing hair on the palm of your hand.

The climate is changing because of evolution.

When time began there was one sea and one land

EVOLUTION...............

the salinity of the oceans has a massive effect on the circulation of the ocean currents

Salinity & Climate

The Global Conveyor Belt is the principal mechanism by which the oceans store and transport heat. The ocean stores more heat in the uppermost 3 meters than that of the entire atmosphere and acts as a "global heat engine." Since salinity is a key ingredient in the global thermohaline circulation, SSS will help us discover how climate variation induces change in global ocean circulatio
