pernod 466
A bit of both mate. If just out a mooch, then there is nothing better to watch than a lurcher following whats going on in cover. But when after bigger things years ago we always got a lot more game by positioning the dogs where we anticipated a bolt would come. A wee bit like beating to waiting guns !!!! yours in sport Pernod 2 Quote Link to post

Guest long-tail
majority of the time all dogs are loose but then i bush a lot of hedgerows and the lurcher will stay fieldside keeping tabs on the terrier picking up the bolted rabbits but sometimes when working thick cover i put the lurcher on a slip otherwise she be in with the terrier then your certain to miss flushed game Quote Link to post

bird 10,014
most times when out with other lads dogs, the other dogs let Bryn mark or go in cover, lol its quite strange really as the dogs, just do it with out being told.! Even my pup Buck just stands back like the other older dogs do, Bryn like a springer he marks+ goes in ,dont see many lurchers go in cover like him he marked these and got them .! 3 Quote Link to post

For me,..this is what true 'lurcher work' is all about.... I like to let the dogs, 'see the rabbit, roe',.whatever,.and then act accordingly... Slip leads are required when walking the stubble's and matching running dogs, against the hares,.but, for roustabout, bush busters and hunting type curs....freedom is the bye-word,...and if ya ain't gonna use a lurcher, like a lurcher,.then why fecking bother... All the best, and good hunting,.regards, CHALKWARREN... Quote Link to post
