Working away from home

Recommended Posts

Anyone else work away from home mon-fri? I've been doing it almost constantly for over 6 years now and I've always enjoyed the travelling and drinking etc but now I've got a little (10 week old) girl its getting harder. i just end up sitting in my hotel room drinking, not a healthy way to live.

anyone else worked away from home after having a little one? how did you make it easier? i know it'll never be easy...

When Im away with work I use face time on Apple iphone, that way I still get to see the kids and they get to see me. Skypes another way also but not sure how this is set up.

At the end of the day dont beat yourself up about it remember your doing this to provide for your family in the 1st place, just make sure the time you do spend with them is the best time ever

f*****g hate being away on the rare occasions I have to do it, make up for it by always booking into a very expensive hotel to make it a little more bareable ........if they won't pay for the hotel I don't go.....simples !!

Worked overseas for 12 years. Trips were 4 to 8 weeks. Its murder especially if u have kids and it plays havok with a marrage.

Depends where you are, I worked "daan saath" for a few years, Welwyn Garden City....now there's a keech hole. BUT I bought some fishing gear and kept it in the office....used to go carp fishing to keep me out of the boozer....enjoyed it too.......bad if you have nippers tho, especially wee ones, you miss too much. Managed to get a job local now, but you never know, can always happen.....

I worked away for 12yrs and a day and a half off on wk/ends and a long wk end off every 6 weeks like the other post said the money was great but no life, I think if i stayed with my last employer me and petal would have finished and i would have drunk myself to the grave. Thats no life and i dont regret finishing and starting up my own company and i get the days off i want .

worked away for years it causes grief on your family life they think [missus]that your up to no good all the time enloying your self to much when in reality half the time your sitting i a bed sit looking at 4 walls wishing you were home instead ov hearing the same shit story over again of a work mate while trying to get your head down
