Nik_B 3,791
Does anyone else not like them? Big bloody mobs of them carrying walking poles and seem to always give you funny looks for what ever country activity that you are doing (unless also rambling and wearing red socks). They seem to hate cyclists, horse riders, fishermen and more than anything shooters, hunters and never seem to have dogs with them which makes me very suspicious! rob190364 2,594
I don't mind them too much...................however, nothing more annoying than when you're trying to be stealthy to see what you can come across and then all of a sudden 20 of them come trooping round the corner. I feel like popping a few of them off with my catty!!
Born Hunter 17,960
Don't particularly bother me, we don't get those sort of numbers though. If anyone has a problem with what I do on my permissions then I really couldn't give a f**k and tell them as much.
Malt 379
Get loads of em round here. Never had any bother though, once had a family ask to watch us ferreting and they sat on a bank in a row, bobble hats twitching in excitement as they watched us go about it! We passed the big daft hob ferret round the kids once it was time to move on. Like most people who only know the myths about ferrets, they thought they were nasty vicious animals who would bite your fingers off without a thought and they were pleasantly surprised.. JohnGalway 1,043
I was training to lead groups walking hills & mountains until my knee gave out on me. Walking poles are invaluable when you get high up on steep ground, they're aluminium to keep the weight down as they walk for miles upon miles, a lot of the time gaining and losing height multiple times. The poles themselves are collapseable/extendable both to suit the height of the person and also if there's scrambling to be done they can be shoved into the backpack to keep your hands free. I also hate cyclists While everyone else you mention are alright by me anyway You'll get all sorts in groups like those from all walks of life, jobs, and points of view from very pro to very anti and anyone in between. Don't judge them because they're in a walking club, just as you may think they're judging you for doing what you do. It may be some are, it may be some are interested or surprised and that's just the face they put on as they hadn't expected to see you out. I've no problem seeing them on our hills and common ground, but I don't believe they've any place on provate fenced land without the express permission of the owner - no right to roam here thank f**k. I wouldn't like to see anyone bringing dogs because I don't trust people I don't know on these hills with dogs due to so many expierences of strangers dogs attacking, killing and injuring our sheep and those of our neighbours.
Nik_B 3,791
Probably because I live near Manchester and all the ramblers are basically townies in funny outfits...they just seem really weird to me. I don't care about what they are doing but I get stared at all the time when training the dog. My mum and dad used to go out with a small rambling club and I joined them once. They were telling a story to their horrified friends about how they went out on a 'recce' and had climbed over a gate to find a couple of blokes with guns in all camo gear etc. I tried to explain that they were probably just controlling vermin on the farmers land...in fact the ramblers were probably just trespassing over some farm land lol and the poor guys they'd come up against were craping themselves that they would phone in the tactical guys. Who's scared of who?
TOMO 29,266
I've never had bother off them,, the ones I've met have always been polite and interested,,, in fact I had one old boy stand and watch for half an hour,,, luckily everything went well , and he was very fortunate to watch a dozen rabbits bolt , and be secured by the long net circling the warren I was ferreting. I don't care about what they are doing but I get stared at all the time when training the dog. That's probably because they haven't seen these things before. One of my sheep pens is beside the main road. We were hand shearing the sheep one year, clipping away bent over double as you do getting on with the job. When I stood up to stretch, f**k me, there's 7 different groups of people stood there in total silence aiming all sorts of cameras at us. I hadn't even heard them arriving Was at the tea & sandwich van at the mart last week, sat on the bench beside the van eating and had tourists take our photos, it's just how it goes. Us people living and working in the country side will eventually be put into some sort of protected species category

PeakOil 352
Not so much ramblers but I remember finding some stupid twats had decided to climb over a locked gate and set up their picnic in a small field that has no public right of way through it and is well hedged and fenced off. Seemingly oblivious to the irritated fella who resided in there bellowing, pawing the ground and generally looking like he wanted to crush the pair of em. Paid 935
I'm fairly glad they never have dogs, as mine is a right kunt with other dogs around he ferrets. Had some sly looks off them, but also some nice chats about ferreting too. Like Malt, have had a few stop and watch, all seemed fine, also had a troop of scouts that stayed around for a good half hour, and saw a few bolts to nets and loved it. One time we had a family with young girls watching when a right screamer of a rabbit got tangled in a net with ferret attached, damn did it scream, they left quite quickly
