the_stig 6,614
no money in it its a hard market to break into -- chickens and free range pigs seems to be the way to go poultry farm round us expanding all the time.. more and more farmers are goin into pig farming ... both can be done on a small scale with good profits , I hear pig farming is a dead loss??? farmer i know makes good money out of it -- keeps it small farmers markets, christmas market. and his own farm shop stays away from the big retailers -- i think it depends on your outlets i know his rare breed stuff makes good profit .. That would make sense if he's located well, near population centres. Plenty of markets, not high milage sparse populations areas. Big chains are a shower of c**ts, only ever interested in squeezing the life out of their suppliers then moving onto the next one, rinse and repeat. plenty to go at round here jg close to m1 motorway and most major citys / towns Edited October 21, 2012 by the_stig

scothunter 12,609
Think rabbit and a lot more game is going to become very popular, more so with soaring food prices. I would certainly look into it. The Germans are pretty big on rearing rabbits for the table.

jetro 5,349
thanks too everyone for their help and replies and advice. the main worry i would have about this venture would be the processing the meat, i.e. ( salughtering). with so many rules and regulations, it could be very diffacult for to start. also, he was thinking off free range farming them, instead of battery farming. atb, j. Carraghs Gem 1,699
If I had the money id go into farming boer goats... With the amount of immigrants in the country you wont be short of customers for meat, get the skins cured as well as a sideline and any horns could be sold to stickmakers
