RossM 8,149
Before we go any further, this write up is for three rabbits!! Well BPR is away for 10 days so it was decided through the week we would head out for a look last night. The conditions couldn't have been worse. With the torrential rain we have been having of late combined with lack of wind, the fields were waterlogged and you could here us coming a mile away. The first field we entered saw a rabbit sitting close to the fence line and was moving before the dog saw it, never mind loosened the dogs off a bit. This field (or the one next to it, depending how you look at it) saw the only injury of the night. BPR whippet Lucy somehow managed to get into the other field and on returning to him run into the fence, giving her a small cut above the eye. The next field saw the first rabbit of the night. It made it's way to the wall as the dog closed in on it, she turned it away from the wall and struck at it, tumbling as she went, she loosed the rabbit on the tumble but picked it up again within twenty yards, The next 2 fields were empty, the next one resulted in a great take from the whippet, taking the bunny without even breaking stride! The condition of the field round this bit were shocking so we decided to head back to a bit local permission. On route I took a wrong turn and ended up having to pull into a car park to load the map on the phone. Just then a car pulled alongside us flashed badges and informed us they were the fuzz, they done the usual checks etc and as we showed them the dogs one was talking (I wasn't paying much attention to him) but I defo heard "I'm a shooter, blah blah blah blah, it's illegal to hunt with dogs" he was politely informed he was wrong (twice) and once checks were carried out we were on our way. Thick pockets of fog hindered the road so we decide to try the newly acquired golf course. Had 3 runs on that 2 were lost, the third resulting in a black bunny. Called it a night after that, So considering the conditions it was far from a great result but it was an enjoyable night 3 Quote Link to post

rob84 112
went out, same ground soaking, no wind, but in the local village there must have been a disco or something, music was blaring which probabily helped, only out for an hour the dog had three runs, missed the first one just got into the hole, caught the second one and missed the last one. just pleased that the pup is finally coming together and catching a few now!
