I live in the back of beyond. If somebody comes on our yard, having ignored the signs, put up with the angry collie, calmed the lurcher and not got gripped by the yard dog, then I would be under a threat and I would have no option than to let the wife out of the cabinet. She speaks the international language. Limited. Admittedly, but effective

Most people would be happy with a yappy terrier. Just to act as an alarm. Most get mixed up with the difference between a gaurd dog and a piece of meat on a chain that will bite any fcker (time bomb imo), A gaurd dogs has to be a well balanced level headed well socialised thing to me thats comfortable in its own skin any in any situation most people haven't the foggiest idea where to start. Just look at ''max"in the park with no standard of training ffs.

Yard dogs are good as an alert dog and a deterant. but a friend of my dad's had a German Shepard which was a big lump and would defend its properties the dog was trained as a security dog. But the theiving scum bags who robbed his place malleted the dog, now a good guard dog is no good dead. If someone wants your property bad enough they will get, just make it very difficult for the b@stards.

 

I think a noisey dog is the best deterrent.

A big f**k of bulldog, presa, bandogs type would not let you mallet it!! That's the advantage I see with that type over a herder...a mate of mine bred bulldog x neo X Dutch shepherd!!! They are some serious dogs....wouldn't want one of those shaking you about like a terrier would a rat...
