just like to say ,involved with dogs over 30 years ,shows are shows ,a day out ,meet some people have a bit of craic give the dogs a day out when doing nothing else(summer time) if you win something great if not so what ,heres the bit it p----s me off big time to see the small minded bitching that goes on between people who all share the same passion ,theres a 13 year old on this site with more sense than alot of the so called (adults, hunters, dog men)call them what you want on here, theres good people putting on shows all summer long putting in alot of effort to take nothing but s--t from people that havent even got the balls to make themselves known, think about this if Albert,Ian,Kieran,Kevin,Fiona,or any of the rest of these good people deside to pull the plug, the dog game will become a much sadder place ,as it is hunting is coming under threat so why not shut the f--k up and enjoy what we have.

The Master McGrath offers the greatest amount of prize money for lurcher racing this side of the channel and i thought it had the largest crowd of spectators i have ever witnessed at a lurcher race so increasing the prize money seems to be increasing the interest in lurcher racing.......that's got to be a good thing.

Last year a lot of the hot debates/discussions were about whippets and non ped whippets but since the introduction of an under 21" class this seems to have sorted this out.

Dogs suspected of being greyhounds has been going on for years even when there was no money for the prizes. It's just that over the past couple of years more dogs are being questioned than ever before. How we handle this will have a massive impact as to whether lurcher racing will move forward or not.

Dogs being suspected of being greyhounds isn't the only issue. Bumping and line judging has caused many a hot debte also and again this took place years ago before the prize money was being put into the lurcher racing.

My own personal view is that there should be at least two judges on the start line, and a minimum of two judges, preferably three, on the finish line. As far as i'm aware the Master McGrath is the only race in the north were there are three line judges and in the two years that its has run, even when the races were very very close there has been no dispute over which dog crossed the line first. The two judges on the start line keep an eye for any dog that bumps aggressively or spoils a race.

Anyone who thinks that lurcher racing was only for fun and not hotly contested for years ago is crazy. The first show i ever entered a dog was in 1995 at Florence Court and it was as competitive then as it is now. Only then there was no keyboard were anyone could hide behind something that WNM and lots of others are quite good at.

It’s healthy for us to compete against other like minded dog men/women, but ffs take it on the jaw if you fail to reach the same heights as the next man/woman. I don’t show or race dogs, why? Many moons ago I witnessed two lads slugging it out over two dogs in a ring, mindless and totally irresponsible in my eyes.

I Iove the craic at the shows around the country, nothing better for the soul than spotting a face in the crowd and getting the wink or the shot of, “howa head long time no see” its all part of our game and a part that should never be allowed to disappear due to the actions of a few. Treat them with the contempt they deserve, don’t allow our sport to be dragged down the gutter with them. Fcuk them out on their head.

Totally agree with you Irish Lurcher.

Over the past year i've lost count of the many new people and friends i've met with at the shows. Even at Shanes i met people whom i hadn't seen in 15 years and they still hadn't forgot the £5 i borrowed years ago

no matter what people say about the shows and racing they have been very good for the overall welfare of the dogs themselves and all those knocking shows try running one yourself weeks and months of hard work and all for the good of the sport with no financial gain for themselves just the pleasure of seeing like minded folk enjoying a day out with people like themselves .so next time someone thinks lets slag one of the shows of have a think if you would fancy the job yourself .

wet nose man is right, all your shows are shite, anyone who keeps a dog purely for cheating at flapper racing should be beaten with a spade, and on another point why is everyone at dog shows so fukking ugly, i've been going to shows for years and i'm alway the best looking there, lurcher 300, tango and irish lurcher "the so called judge  " are all worse looking than their dogs, i'll admitt albertj is a good looking man, but the rest of you for the love of god at least make an effort

A Tribute to the late John Shaw who passed away  last Thursday 6th November 25

      I Am Free
Do not grieve for me now my  friends and family, I am free
I am following the path God Laid for me
I took his hand when I heard him call
I turned my back and left it all
I could not stay another day
To Love, to live, to hunt, to show my treasured Whippets, or play.
I found a peace at close of day.
Be not burdened with the times of sorrow
I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow
Perhaps my time seemed all to brief
Do not lengthen it now with undue grief
Lift up your hearts my friends and share with me
      God wanted me now,
      He set me free.
John, we will love you forever and you will be sadly missed by your loving family and all your Country Sporting Fraternity and in the show ring.
May the Angels above give you the best seat in Heaven and may your gentle soul rest in peace.
      For Country Sports Fraternity
      Margaret Mc Stay
