FUJI 17,623
I think they would/might be a better alternative to a collie in lurcher breeding, as they have been bred for hundreds of years as a dual purpose herder/hunter, but we are pretty entrenched in our thoughts on Lurchers, and "exotic" breeds are usualy greeted with skepticism and scorn !! LOL !! Cheers. Get one and breed it and we'll try em out .. 1 Quote Link to post
BLACKWATER... 157
catahoulas dont hunt silent maybe look nice , ille stick to what i know works ,enough trash about without breeding more ,youle not beat the old staghounds or cold blooded greyhound cross saluks in the states , for catching jack rabbits and coyotes, ,as for dogs marking wouldnt realy go ferreting without a good marking cacthing dog , three way split ,dog ,ferret and man, very ancient but a good team ,all this easy to teach a dog ferreting etc sounds good , not that easy as you never see many for sale ,plenty failed coursing dogs, lamp dogs , Quote Link to post

bunnys 1,236
have to say I agree with bunnys, dogs will mark in different ways and if you,re in tune with the dog you,ll pick up on this, some are feckin obvious and others well more subtle and I,ve seen the bitch in question, the best looking dug in whins kennels imo, certainly catches my eye aye ya right there fella and has for marking i prefer thetype that marks the warren and then positions itself ready for the bolt , not the type trying to get to ground nuisance these types to the serious feriting man pulling nets they have to honour and be steady . atb bunnys. 1 Quote Link to post

Country Joe 1,411
On the subject of marking Dogs, the best i ever had was a Whippet x Beddy, she would mark a bury with a slight tilt of her head, then sit behind the bury waiting for the bolt, no noise making, a very quiet canny Bitch. If there was no bolt, and the knocking box was brought out, she would move on, when finishing up at the bury, you would find her lying behind the next occupied bury in total silence. this little Bitch put a lot of Rabbits in the bag, when anyone seeing her work they were well impressed, i would never have sold her, the only thing is when they pass away, they are seriously missed. 1 Quote Link to post
