Walked up to the in laws yesterday about half 12 to get my car after a heavy weekend :D (it seemed like a good idea at the time), and as I got there I heard a big commotion on the other side of the road so looked over to see what was going on.

A flock of starlings was going mad, because a crow had grabbed one (presumably in flight), and was pecking it on the floor as it had it pinned down... I've never heard of a crow attacking a live bird, especially in the 'safety' of a flock?

Anyway, the starling was flapping about and couldn't get up so I necked the poor thing.

Got home and mentioned it to the missus, she said in the last week one of her friends had been attacked in the street by a crow, and another had a resident stalker who keeps trying to get in through her kitchen window (Lab?)

Is this normal behaviour for crows? I've never seen it before and I was wondering if anyone else has noticed strange behaviour?

there just hard bastrads up your neck of the woods

Seen crows proper hammering leverets round silage fields after they have been cut. The leverets had escaped the chopper but when they stuck their noses back onto the cut fields the crows where on them trying to lift some quite big leverets as they screamed and wriggled free.

If more shooters and keepers put real effort into controlling crows rather than wan king over photos of starving milky summer vixens that they have managed to call in and shoot the countryside would be much better for it.

back to the original post and the point about crows harassing people ive experienced this myself at school when i was a kid we used to have crow that would swoop and chase us it was actuly quite scary ive heard other examples of this behaviour also from freinds.... now just to throw the the crow among the pigeons :D i feel like the corvids get a hard deal with all the egg theiving blah blah blah its just what they do like sharks eat little fish lions eat baby zebra ect ect its not down to us to play god and decide whats right and wrong i also think that the magpie and jay and the jakdaw are some of our most beautiful birds.... dont get me wrong i beleave in number control of these species but i dont understand the deep cut hatred people have towards them.

Just remembered - I once watched 2 crows harassing a stoat across a golf course fairway. Whenever the crows got to close the stoat would turn and rush them! Best bit was once the stoat reached the otherside it ran about a foot up a tree trunk and leapt at the crows like a ninja!!
