gnasher16 31,426
Never been to the capital always wanted to go and see a few things. Like a wander round the imperial war museum. Might go one day, maybe go to gnashers funeral after they ship his frozen corpse from the bleak windswept moor of rannoch lol joking mate. I,ll be lucky if im not just left there to rot !..... What needs to be remembered when talking about London is its the first place the shitbags of the world head for, they dont head for rural Derbyshire !!.......so is it Londons fault or the governments fault ?......I find it heartbreaking that the place i love and people i love have been swallowed up by so much shit i could no longer face living there.......if i wanted to carry on living in London it would be the choice of 2 extremes.......either living among people i cant communicate with because they dont speak my language or living among such toffee nosed ponces that i still couldnt communictae with them because i dont speak their language either !!......I feel so sorry for the normal everyday Londoner.............Like anywhere else there are still parts of London that represent London people its just you have to know where your going........ Scothunter.....in all seriousness if you ever make the trip down feel free to let me know if you dont know anyone else down here......at least the places i would show you, certainly in East London would be representative of cockney people...................to me theres nothing worse than going to an area and coming away still none the wiser....i used to know a bird from Wishaw, whenever i would go up there her brothers would take me to a load of nutty backstreet pubs to meet " real Glaswegians " ....i had great times................same as anywhere you want to see true representatives and characters of an area and the traditions its known for....................not a bunch of free loading wankers who dont even belong there. And as for the person who said the best pie and mash is south of the river .......................must be one of them dosey Millwall fans..............theres nothing better south of the river even our rats have more character than yours !
marshman 7,758
I was waiting for you to bite on that one Gnash lol!! I went into cooke pie and mash on the Roman rd the other day and they had some scabby mouthed junkie type handling the gear out back. Not a bit of me mate ! You should try the one on Tower bridge rd on match day I'm sure you'll be welcomed !!
gnasher16 31,426
....The best pie and mash ive had aint even in London.......I forget the name of it but i remembered reading about the place Beckham often flies over to in Waltham Abbey Market.....gave it a try last year.....not sure its worth flying from America for but certainly one of the best ive had. The only place over that side you,ll find me on match day is at the top of the Shard throwing darts down ! I know the one you mean in Tower Bridge Rd....between the roundabout and Abbey St......not a bad one to be fair. Edited April 27, 2012 by gnasher16
Malt 379
Been to a few areas in London over the years on trips up with mates from there, Camden, Kentish Town, Clapham, etc. Only met a small group of people each time but met some proper, genuine London blokes I thought a lot of. I found the who way of life fascinating, everything on the go 24/7. One of the funniest incidences was when we went to a store to pick up a slab of larger and it was back in the days before 24 hour licensing. The little Indian chap was known for selling out of hours, and when we asked him, he leaned over the desk, looked left and right, then checked the car park to see if the coast was clear. He gave us a nod and put his finger to his lips and gave us a wink. His mate went out the back and got us a crate. Thing was, he was making all that effort to look shifty, and there was streams of folk buying beer from him! There was a line of fecking taxis waiting outside where folk were coming and going and there were loads of people openly waking down the street carrying these slabs! Bloke must have been making a fortune! I enjoyed my visits, but I was always glad to be hitting the M4 back home. Much as I liked the place, it was a little bit hectic for a rustic bumpkin like me to enure for too long!

WILF 49,960
I live out of town now, I reckon me and Gnasher would be able to throw a stone at each other by the sound of it ? Went into town one day with a good pal from this town, we went to Tubby Isaacs before hitting the boozers and my pal was really trying to act " the old Londoner".......anyway, he talks to the bloke on the stall like he has known him all his life and says " Ow is ol Tubby these days?".........the bloke gives him a blank look, waits just long enough and says " He has been dead 30 years!!" to say I was crying my eyes out is an understatement, ther was a bloke in a nice roller stood there to and he was pissing himself as well. In order to try and save some face my mate says " Oh, no you know the fella who is normally here, the old bloke".......the bloke serving takes a long hard look at my mate and says " what, old Charlie " ........." yeah, ol Charlie, that's him " says my mate like a bloke who has been saved from drowning..........the fella on the stall smiles, another pause and says " he has been dead 10!!" lol lol I literally could no breath for laughing and not could matey in the roller......funny as f**k!

I admire anyone who can stay loyal to their area so good on you........i,ll always be loyal to my people but i had to give up on the area....some things are just beyond our control ! Stabs 3
Its the Peckham one I meant.....Stabs is a Durham lad so I didnt want to confuse him too much! lol lol  I didn't know London from a hole in the ground WILF, other than buying Bennies and Freds from The Cavern and later Merc on day trips. I made the mistake of moving to Catford with a couple of mates....now that place is a shithole. We used to drink in a pub under the railway bridge....stopped going after seeing kids chase the dragon in there. Ladywell....another dump. There's a boozer opposite the baths that we used to get in and you'd have to step round and over the dog shit in there. I moved to the east after that and enjoyed it, but I would still go back to Catford for the pie and mash. That was in the days of the dog track though and that's been closed a while now. Ed Reid used to run a Thursday night club just up the road and I used to shiver when I drove through the old place on the way there. Edited to add my old man came down from Durham for a drink one weekend and he walked down the road and said in a very loud voice "Rich, hey...there's a blackie!" I was pissing myself and he just kept going "there's another one!" whilst pointing and tugging on my arm. He gave up after about 15 minutes. I had a good night out with him in Beckenham as I didn't trust him in the Catford boozers Happy memories
